Bloodstone assists us in facing the hard realities and challenges of Earthly life with courage and nobility. It does this by strengthening the root chakra, purifying the aura, and grounding one fully in the physical body. By bringing the subtle body into balance, it bolsters our inner vitality and gives us the heart to make necessary sacrifices, look at painful truths, or endure physical trials.
Bloodstone is still used today as a health talisman and to heal illnesses related to the blood and circulatory system. It is worn by athletes to increase power and strength and for victory. Bloodstone may facilitate courage. It's believed to have a calming effect on fears and anger.
Bloodstone is used to purify and detoxify the blood, kidneys, liver, spleen, bladder and intestines. It has been used in the treatment of leukemia and other blood disorders. It can also be used in crystal healing for the eyesight.
In ancient times, women wore them to ensure a safe pregnancy and easy childbirth.
Bloodstone is a hero's stone. It can instill courage in dangerous situations (like everyday life) and protects us from our own dangerous desires. In addition to instilling courage, bloodstone is an intense healing stone, balancing the base, navel, sacral, and heart chakras.
Bloodstone helps one see the benefit and patterns of change, and to recognize the benefit of "turmoil prior to perfection". One must sometimes break down a pattern of old behavior before it can be rebuilt in a healthier way.
The primary message of bloodstone is "Be Here Now!" It can revitalize love, relationships, and friendships. Helps to let go of selfish behavior, and renews idealistic outlook on life. Also enhances one's natural abilities, talent, and creativity.
History and Legend
The name heliotrope is derived from the Greek and means "turning of the sun". The ancient Greeks saw the heliotrope as the connecting stone between the gods, men, and the earth. The Egyptians believed it to be a powerful protective stone. Hildegard von Bingen further shrouded it in mystery with the legend that its red "drops" were the blood of Christ. As a result, the heliotrope became the holy protective stone of the crusaders - this stone came to be known as "bloodstone".
Bloodstone has long been used to secure victory in physical battles, competition and on a personal level. Bloodstone may help one have a successful business and is often used in spells to be victorious in court or legal issues.
Mineral Properties
