Spiritual Lessons Unfold at Varied Speeds Across Neptune and Pluto Generations
- Details
- Written by Robert Wilkinson
Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are very important indicators of the lessons which the “spiritual field” brings to different generations.
Today we take a look at their speed in various signs, and it’s evident that some generations have a lot more spiritual lessons to process than others. This is due to when Neptune and Pluto speed up and slow down in their orbits.
This revisits something I offered about 5 years ago which is important if we are to understand why some generations have spiritual experiences which span only 2 signs, while others span 7 signs. This may give insights about why certain eras seemed bogged down while others seem to pack in a tremendously wide set of experiences. By looking at the speed of the spiritual planets in the various signs, we are able to see which zodiacal sectors of reality are in play spiritually, and what we’re learning about our inner spiritual orientation relative to where it was when we were born.
Pluto
Because of the shape of Pluto’s orbit, it moves at a very high speed when moving through Scorpio, but moves very slowly when transiting Taurus. Since each sign represents a specific quality of experience, the more signs Pluto transits in our lives, the more varied types of Plutonic experiences we will have. This provides us a variety of “underworld” experiences, and different ways to purify ourselves as it moves forward through our houses from where it was at birth.
To illustrate, someone born in 1824 had Pluto in early Aries. Pluto entered Taurus in 1853, and finally entered Gemini in 1884. It entered Cancer 1914, Leo in 1938, Virgo in 1956, Libra in 1971, Scorpio in 1983, Sagittarius in 1995, and Capricorn in 2008. It will enter Aquarius in 2024, Pisces in 2044, and Aries in 2068. It will transit Taurus again beginning 2097, Gemini in 2128, and Cancer 2158, followed by Leo in 2183.
So those born in the 1820s had only experienced Pluto’s transit of Aries and Taurus by the time they turned 60. Those born in the early 1880s had Pluto in late Taurus, but by the time they turned 60 they had experience Pluto in Gemini, Cancer, and Leo. Those born in the 1940s experienced Pluto in Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius by age 60. Those born in 2010 will experience Pluto in Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, and early Aries by age 60. And those born in 2050 will know only Pluto in Pisces, Aries, and Taurus by age 60.
As you can see, people born 200 years ago only experienced Pluto transiting 2 signs, but the generation born in Dane Rudhyar and Marc Jones’ time (1890-95) got Pluto in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo before the age of 70. Quite a difference to experience Pluto’s radical transformational energies in 4 signs instead of two! I was born with Pluto at 18 Leo, and now that it’s at 1 Aquarius, I’m at the waxing pentelftile in its larger cycle, showing I’m at a Plutonic phase of having to find a form of faith to overcome a duality in the Plutonic landscape unknown to us for hundreds of years.
Some generations never know a Pluto trine, or even a square, due to the lengths of time it spends in various signs. Those born in 1849 had Pluto in late Aries, and by 1899 it was only in mid-Gemini, a span of about 45 degrees. So millions of people in those groups never even knew a sextile, much less a square or trine.
By contrast, it was perihelion (fastest speed) in Scorpio, so those generations born with Pluto in Leo, Virgo, and Libra have experienced Pluto moving very quickly through the houses where we have those signs, as well as Scorpio and Sagittarius. My first square occurred in 1990 when I was 39, and the trine happened when I was 51-53. It quincunxed my natal Pluto when I was 55-57, and will make an opposition to my natal Pluto in 2035 when I’m 84! So I get a Pluto opposition AND a Uranus return if I live to that age.
The gen born in 2005 with Pluto around 23-25 Sagittarius will have transiting Pluto square their natal Pluto around 2060-2062 when they’re 55-57, and the ones born 2019-2020 with Pluto near 24 Capricorn will have the first Pluto square in 2089 when they're 70. Those born in 2005 won’t see a trine until they are 83-85 and those born in 2020 will never know a trine. Neither groups will experience an opposition! So it’s clear that different generations have different transpersonal lessons and rates of unfoldment of those collective lessons.
Neptune
Neptune has fewer anomalies in its orbit, and so except for a few variations in the whole cycle, most people experience Neptune’s transit through 5 signs by the time they hit 60. This shows that we all get the waxing aspects of transiting Neptune to our natal Neptune in the course of our lives. As Neptune indicates our positioning within collective consciousness, it’s easy to see how some Neptunian sub-generations get along with some but not other sub-gens.
Neptune in Libra does not have the same collective ideal as those with Neptune in Capricorn, and Neptune in Scorpio people have a much different collective ideal than those with Neptune in Aquarius! Of course, the earlier sub-generation has to go through those “collective squares” via transits as part of their evolution, and while the elders eventually experience the collective energies of those who are born after them, the younger ones will never experience the collective energies of the older unless they live to be well over a hundred.
This works personally, as well as generally. While Neptune and Pluto indicate the generational and sub-generational energies of the greater global atmosphere and its transformational necessities, Uranus and Saturn help us bring individual meaning and a sense of crafting our purpose within those larger atmospheres. While different blends of Neptune and Pluto signs have radically different life experiences based in the speed of those planets after we are born and whether they are retrograde or direct, these play out on the world stage in countless ways via the individualization pulses of Uranus as they are shaped within Saturn’s binding rings of time.
Uranus and Saturn
Saturn and Uranus are involved with the dance of individualization and construction of “The Great Work” of perfecting our personalities to become the vehicles of our Divine Purpose. We reveal our higher purpose as we respond to the larger Neptunian and Plutonic forces at work within us and in the outer world via how we express the awakenings and constantly changing duties and lessons shown by the Uranian and Saturnine cycles in our lives. Neptune and Pluto are broad invisible spiritual influences which are brought into focus and given meaning by how we express our individuality through Uranus and how we choose to shape our responses based in our Saturn.
We all have Saturn cycles of approximately 29+ years and Uranus cycles of approximately 84 years. These Uranus and Saturn cycles are more or less “locked in” for each of us since we all have Uranian shifts around 21, 42, 63, and 84, with small variances based in our natal position. Each one of us experiences the lower (waxing) square, the opposition, and the upper (waning) square to our natal Uranus if we live to our 60s. Each of these is a point of emergent individuality with the ability to revolutionize our lives and become more free to live our individual Destiny.
We also all have Saturnian shifts around 7, 15, 22, 29, 36, 43, and points beyond. I explain these shifts in detail in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend with tables on when each generation’s shifts occurred and explanation about the lessons involved and how to use those crucial points of shift to shape our Destiny according to our understanding and wisdom up to that point. What Uranus awakens, Saturn shapes according to our limitations and willingness to grow at different points in life.
So your homework, should you choose to want to learn more, is to take a look at when Neptune and Pluto’s sign changes happened in your chart and the various aspects they’ve made to your natal planets. As Neptune and Pluto transited your houses, they emphasized different transpersonal spiritual lessons in those life areas.
Once you’ve identified the larger shifts in sign emphasis and when they were happening, then take a look at the signs Uranus transited since birth and see where and when various parts of your individuality were awakened. Then look at where Saturn was in each of the major shifts and changes, and how your responses changed after those times.
The study of the speed and aspects of the outer spiritual planets to their natal positions reveals a lot about our spiritual growth over our lifetimes, and gives a sense of what specific generations have been through and what is yet to come.
