December 2023-January 2024 - Venus In Sagittarius Invites Us To the Dance!
- Details
- Written by Robert Wilkinson
Venus leaves its “exile” in intensely magnetic Scorpio at 12:24 pm PST on December 29 and enters adventurous, expansive Sagittarius where it stays until it enters pragmatic and studied Capricorn on January 23. What does Venus’ passage through Sagittarius hold for all of us?
This brings the next shift in the energy of planets and houses we have in Taurus and Libra. Whereas the Summer brought us outgoing, inspired Venus in Leo, lighting up our lives in both inner and outer ways, Venus in Virgo taught us that “to rule is to serve,” with an appreciation of good service, meticulous work, humility, and solid relationships between mid-October and early November. We then moved into Venus in Libra, giving us a sense of balance, grace, and equilibrium as we found a new “rhythm of relationship” between early and late November. We then entered Venus in Scorpio, which is what we just finished.
Venus in Scorpio brought a deep and demanding intensity to our Venusian affairs, forcing us to focus on what to eliminate because we no longer had the magnetic attraction to those things and people. We have now deepened our approach to Venusian responses in our Scorpio sector, and now enter the freeing, inspired, dancing fire of Sagittarius! This should be a relief, as whatever has been “cocooned” by Scorpio is now transformed to fly free in Sagittarius.
Venus in Sagittarius brings openness and a willingness to dance with abandon to whatever it touches, appreciating the spaces which allow us the freedom to explore each other, and seeing how what we value feeds our future or not. Whereas Venus in Scorpio can be tough because or its relentless scrutiny of others, Sagittarius values freedom and seeking higher, broader truths, whether others agree with them or not.
As the trip around the zodiac can be seen in terms of “dual pulses,” initiated by the Fire and Air signs and “confirmed” by the Earth and Water signs, this begins our trip through the Sagittarius/Capricorn pulse. This is solidly in the spiritual/transpersonal sector of the zodiac, permitting us to take the social experience of Venus in Leo, Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio into another dimension of human experience. The balancing, refining energy of Venus in Libra, deepened in magnetic attraction/repulsion in Scorpio, can now enter a new realm, much broader and wider in scope than anything Venus has experienced since it left Pisces in February 2023 and entered Aries, initiating this particular journey around the zodiac.
Venus in Sagittarius is a good sport, and dances through life and relationships. It is open, optimistic, sees the humor in things, and generally transmutes the possessiveness of Venus in Scorpio into a lot of space so that everyone is free to dance as they please without pressure, without direction, without purpose, but always yearning for a greater freedom.
Venus in Sagittarius is fiery, and therefore moves on rather quickly, sampling the potential in each relationship but without the deep commitment and sense of responsibility any long term relationship requires. This position “dares to love” for however long or short the relationship is, and can be impulsive in its affections. Venus in Sagittarius aspires to high standards in relationships, and is undaunted by setbacks, usually choosing to chart a course which frees them from things they no longer like or which provide no potential as they see it.
Venus in Sagittarius is powerful, even if it is in an “agitating” sign. Venus in Sagittarius harmonizes with planets in the Fire and Air signs, and brings those with Venus in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces to a turning point in their relationships.
Venus in Sagittarius is in its own 3rd sign, as per its rulership of Libra, and in its own 8th sign, as per its rulership of Taurus. In its own 3rd it values the sisterly connection to others, seeing them as close relations; in its own 8th, it naturally casts off limiting people and things from the past so it may satisfy Venus’ need to enjoy its life and relationships, as per its Taurus side. So while not in an element it is familiar with, Sagittarius’ expansiveness helps Venus to different perspectives and desires as per its home signs.
As Venus is a combination of Fixed Earth and Cardinal Air, the Mutable Fire of Sagittarius is not in its essential nature, but as Sagittarius is the 10th sign from Venus’ exaltation in Pisces, Venus can find the prominence, recognition, and even “adoration” as it displays publically the qualities of its greatest development. As Sagittarius and Pisces share a rulership by Jupiter, Venus in Sagittarius contacts one part of its “exalted” part of its journey en route to its occupancy of Pisces in the Spring.
Venus in Sagittarius is extraordinarily movable and flexible, and is in an unfamiliar element and is encouraged by mode. As it’s in the axis of the Archetype of “The Questor/Magician,” it indicates Venus does “thought experiments” in Sagittarius, entertaining all kinds of abstract ideas to see which ones it likes and which ones don’t seem to map the many futures Sagittarius generates.
It should be good for people with Sun in Sagittarius, because when Venus comes to visit your Sun, you could find yourself beholding something or someone of great beauty or value who can illuminate you in Venusian ways. Because it is the backdrop to how planets in Taurus and Libra express themselves, if things move away from the intense and deeper interactions of Scorpio into the freedom and lightness of Sagittarius, find the humor and detached inspiration of the dance. Value what you’re learning about freedom rather than become superficial as you flit from experience to experience.
So welcome to the gateway to a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a more optimistic and wide open view of self and others. Observe any feelings about “running away” which come up, and remember that freedom is an internal attitude which conditions our outer experience. Take a look at the long term dance of relationships in your life across time, and see how each one freed you while teaching you truths you needed to learn. By the time Venus enters Capricorn in late January, we’ll see more clearly where our likes, loves, and values are leading us to, and will be able to see clearly where our best relationship “investment” are.
And now, a word from our sponsor!
The Magic of Venus: Friendships, Soul Mates, and Twin Flames
Each transit Venus makes through a sign adds to our Venusian experience, enabling us to shape our likes and affections toward newer and better values and relationships. As our Venus response evolves, we have the capability to enjoy the subtle pleasures in life to the fullest. No longer over-indulgent or self-denying, we can choose what to like and find a rich appreciation for the banquet of life experiences which are ours for the enjoying!
Venus’ duality is Wisdom/Folly. By our Venus responses, we are led out of misguided values, vanities, and ways of interacting into the wisdom of “Right Relationship.” In esoteric philosophy, Venus is said to be the elder sister of the Earth, so perhaps our Venus shows us how to refine what is of value and leave the superficial and vain imaginings of the ego behind, just as humanity is learning globally at this time in history. Venus is definitely part of the equation in our personal and interpersonal happiness.
Because Venus changing signs shows us our own changing tastes as well as the changing tastes of those around us, you can find out more about what you like and why you like it, as well as how Venus functions in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and all the signs in my book The Magic of Venus: Friendships, Soul Mates, and Twin Flames. It is the most comprehensive book on Venus ever written, and explains why we attract who we do and how to create more satisfying relationships in the future. It is a combination of psychological, astrological, spiritual, and experiential knowledge and wisdom accumulated over a 60 year period.
This work offers all you could want to know about the power of your inner Venus and how you can make your relationships more fulfilling because you are living a Soul-ful life. You’ll find out about why you like or don’t like people and things, why you’ve attracted who you have in the past and present, and how to make those attractions more aligned with your Soul purpose in the future. You’ll understand why Soul Mates come into our lives, and how to know the difference between a Soul Mate and our Twin Flame.
It has chapters on the qualities of each sign’s natural mate, the qualities of Venus in each sign, Venus retrograde, and when crucial choices and changes are made, affecting who we attract in the future. It was written for both astrologers and lay people, and as it has a thousand gems for better relationships, with self, others, and Source, please consider getting your copy by going to the link above! (And when you’re done, please leave a review on Amazon, since it helps the book and all other books on astrology as well!)
Past As Prologue and A Guide for the Future
Venus in Sagittarius brings yet another a turning point in the voyage of Venus through all the zodiacal signs. So let’s take a look at the last cycle of Venus to get a sense of what’s been and what’s coming.
In early May 2022, Venus left Pisces and entered Aries. Venus in Pisces feels everything there is to feel, while Venus in Aries feels what is immediate and passing, leaping forward into relationships and quick to like and “unlike” things. Venus in Aries opens new likes, new values, new appreciation, and more directness in all interactions. This year Venus occupied Aries from mid-February through late March.
Venus in Taurus savors each moment. Venus in Taurus likes what it likes and is not inclined to try new things unless they’re easy and pleasant. While Venus in Aries is highly agitated, Venus in Taurus likes comfort and ease. We experienced Venus in Aries and Taurus in May and June 2022. This year Venus occupied Taurus between mid-March and mid-April.
When Venus was in Gemini late June through late July 2022 it began a new “pulse,” and we experienced a more curious, open and adaptable approach to our likes, loves, and fancies. Venus in Gemini gives a “love of learning,” a love of exploring all the ideas there are to explore which capture the imagination. It is good with words and ideas, and solves information puzzles by seeing ways to put them together. We learned new Venusian likes, values, and the social promise in Gemini. This year Venus occupied Gemini between mid-April and early May.
Venus then moved through Cancer between late July through mid-August 2022, giving opportunities to secure what nurtured us and allowed us to have deeper relationships. Venus in Cancer loves deep, tender connections with people and experience. While it is VERY sensitive, it is also the most caring placement for Venus, because it rules Taurus, the exaltation of the Moon. The Moon does well in Venus signs, and Venus does well in Lunar signs (I include Leo, as the Moon is the spiritual ruler of Leo, as I explain in Saturn, Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. This year Venus occupied Cancer between early May and early June.
Venus in Leo began a new pulse mid-August through early September 2022, and took the introversion and sensitivity of Cancer and turned it outward in creative and dramatic forms of expression. Venus in Virgo for almost all of September completed this dual pulse by learning to value expressing “significant form” and “divine Discernment.” Leo gave us a new enthusiasm and sense of heartfelt liking and loving of things and people, and Virgo helped us find the place and function of each detail in our lives.
This year Venus spent an abnormally long time in Leo, as it entered that sign on June 5, went stationary retrograde at 29 Leo on July 22, and retrograded back to 13 Leo, where it went direct on September 3 and finally entered Virgo on October 8. It has been in Virgo up to now.
In the previous Venus cycle, the next dual pulse (Libra-Scorpio) began when Venus entered its home sign of Libra at the end of September 2022. Venus in Libra is said to value and express more balanced, reasoned, beautiful and “symmetric” interactions and experiences. It is interactive, gracious, and wants to make forms more pleasing. In Scorpio, Venus’ reorients our social instincts toward a deeper connection with self and others, and a greater intensity and scrutiny of all our interactions with the world. Venus in Scorpio teaches us about what we can attract and how to do it, as well as what we cannot hold on to because the magnetism is no longer there. This year Venus has been in Libra between early November and early December, and occupies Scorpio through the end of December.
In 2022, we began a new pulse with Venus in Sagittarius from mid-November to the second week of December, when it entered Capricorn. Venus in Sagittarius brings openness and a willingness to dance, appreciating the spaces which allow us freedom to explore each other, and seeing how what we value feeds our future or not. It values freedom and higher, broader truths, whether others agree with them or not.
Venus in Sagittarius takes all which was “cocooned” in Scorpio and allows it to fly free. It then takes those truths and potential futures and organizes values and interactions into forms of personal power in Capricorn. That love of propriety and maturity in relationships naturally lead us to see our power in the broader context of society. Venus in Capricorn teaches us about the value of personal power and more mature interactions. This year Venus will enter Capricorn toward the end of January 2024 where it stays through mid-February when it again enters Aquarius.
Venus’ in Aquarius leads us to value or appreciation for our ability to make a greater contribution to others or society as a whole, with an ease of maturity and an ability to feel a part of a greater group contribution. Venus in Aquarius teaches us how to enjoy more of a sense of being part of a greater group work. Venus then takes the vision and affection for a greater good into the depth waters of Pisces, where it feels all the empathy and compassion there is to feel while understanding the value of saying goodbye, forgiving much as it passes down the stream of Time. Venus in Pisces gives us a renewed swim in the ocean of infinite compassion.
From Here We Dance On
Venus’ entry into Sagittarius begins a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a greater vision of the truth of what we value, as well as the relationships which allow us a greater freedom to like what we like. Venus in a Fire sign brings lightness and brightness to our relationships, so learn to open up and fly free in the eternal dance of interactivity.
So welcome to the gateway to a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a more exciting connection with others, as well as a greater enjoyment of all things Sagittarian! This will bring a new vision in our social expression, and new people who could become fellow travelers in our path to finding higher truths. After this phase, once it enters Capricorn in late January, it’ll be in a sign favorable to its Taurus nature, if not its Libra nature. Venus is now tracking the path of the Sun, with a long term conjunction beginning in April.
As our Venus response evolves, we have the capability to enjoy the subtle pleasures in life to the fullest. No longer over-indulgent or self-denying, we can choose what to like and find a rich appreciation for the banquet of life experiences which are ours for the enjoying! The Magic of Venus is available to all who want to improve all their relationships and join with Soul Mates to bring forth the best of our Higher Self.
