At 5:09 pm PDT pm on October 4, Mercury enters agreeable and reasonable Libra, a sign in harmony with its Gemini side.

This ends Mercury’s 68 days stay in its home sign of Virgo which brought that Mutable Earth backdrop to planets and houses we have in Gemini and Virgo. Mercury in Libra now brings Cardinal Air to the forefront of those planetary Lights and life houses for the next 2+ weeks.

Mercury’s entry into Libra shows it’s rapidly speeding up after its time direct and retrograde in Virgo. Of course we’re still “under the influence” of that retrograde through December, so the themes of its SRX degree at 22 Virgo and its SD degree at 9 Virgo will be prominent until then. Also, its Inferior conjunction degree at 14 Virgo will continue to be in play until the Superior conjunction at 27 Libra in the third week of October.

The recent retrograde helped us take a new look at our “venerable standards,” as well as our health on all levels. We now have been educated in some way emotionally and/or socially, and know what we stand for. It just left its shadow zone at 22 Virgo on September 30, and now enters a new type of expression, affecting how we coordinate things, discover things, give and receive information, and see things from multiple points of view, keep it balanced and see the nuances in things.

This continues to quicken all things related to Mercury in our charts. Because it is still accelerating since its last retrograde, it is bringing speed to our ability to coordinate things, discover things, give and receive information, and see things from multiple points of view. It now has Venus as its ruler, showing Mercury will initially feel more Leonine in its first three days in Libra, and then Venus enters Virgo, creating a Mutual Reception which is a powerful “closed circuit” type of energy.

Mercury will move at maximum speed until its coming Superior conjunction when it begin to gradually slow to go retrograde in Capricorn in December. During the time it’s catching up to the Sun between now and the Superior conjunction, it is the planet which “leads the Light,” showing that a prerequisite to “enlightened action” at this time involves discovering the new information or perspective we need to make things real. Until the next Superior Conjunction, Mercury will be behind the Sun, processing the Solar experience we’ve been having in Libra.

While Mercury’s in Libra, it makes a series of quincunxes. The first is to Saturn during when Mercury’s at 1-3 Libra, the second is to Jupiter at 12-16 Libra, and then to Uranus and Neptune at 23-26 Libra creating a Yod, or Finger of God, in the third week of October at the same time it semisquares Venus in early Virgo. Expect a lot of adjustments and sacrifices beginning the second week of the month.

While in Libra, Mercury is in its own 5th house relative to its Gemini qualities, and in its own 2nd house relative to its Virgo qualities. So it’s very creative and expressive in Libra, which helps it secure what it needs to maintain the precision and practicality of its Virgo side. Mercury in Virgo will help us weigh, judge, and evaluate things from many perspectives. While it can be indecisive, it can also keep a focus on the ideal, and find innumerable small steps toward achieving that ideal. Just stay adaptable, flexible, and reasonable as you navigate the many adjustments and sacrifices indicated by the quincunxes!

Onward to the Superior conjunction at 27 Libra, which will give us a transcendent perspective and a chance to get about the normal dualities and stresses of life. Soon thereafter Mercury enters Scorpio, where it will join Mars in an intense scrutiny of everything there is to notice!
