Netflix Partners With California Dispensary To Develop 12 Strains Of Marijuana

Cannabis and Netflix enthusiasts, you’re sure to love this new development. To promote its new show Disjointed, Netflix partnered with the California dispensary Alternative Herbal Health Services (AHHS) to distribute 12 strains of marijuana based on 10 of its shows.
The marijuana strains were inspired by Disjointed, Lady Dynamite, BoJack Horseman, Orange Is the New Black, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Mystery Science 3000: The Return, Arrested Development, Grace and Frankie, Chelsea and Santa Clarita Diet, and were sold in West Hollywood last weekend.
As Jonathan Santoro, executive creative director of Carrot points out, Netflix did not technically sell the weed. Rather, the media company partnered with AHHS and had its lawyers work with the state of California to figure out how the marijuana would be distributed.
Carrot, the creative shop behind the activation, began working with AHHS six months ago to curate the weed strains. The company helped convey the feelings various shows inspire and helped partner them with various strains. Reportedly, indica strains were paired with lighter shows and sativa strains were paired with more aggressive-feeling shows.
Carrot also helped redesign the layout and feel of the dispensary to make it look more like the establishment featured in the show Disjointed. The packaging and branding of each weed strain received a make-over, as well. Santoro explained that for legal reasons, “Netflix or Carrot never physically touched the flower.” Instead, AHHS handled, packaged and sold the weed.
Before the bud was available to the public, a press release was shared. It read, “Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone. For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.
AdWeed reports that over the weekend, the dispensary sold over a hundred jars of the Netflix-inspired marijuana. “It was essentially a no-brainer to create a pop-up that truly distributed marijuana that we would curate,” said Santoro.
