Leo - Full Moon Meditation
«I am that and that I am.»
(Leo Sun Sign Dates = July 22 - August 21)
Welcome to the Full Moon Meditation Series
This series is inspired by an astrological take on the twelve labors of Hercules from Greek mythology.
Hercules' twelve tasks symbolize the journey each person takes from self-centeredness back to divine purpose. As humans, we don't always know the path to higher understanding, but the path itself guides us, often through dramatic experiences, to our ultimate goal. We journey "on the path until we become that path," moving from Aries to Cancer, Leo, and through all the zodiac signs to Pisces.
In Leo, courage takes center stage. It's built on self-confidence, wise choices, and thoughtful action.
The Challenge of Leo
In the fifth sign of the zodiac, Leo (the Lion), Hercules is once more called to follow his inner light and take on the next challenge:
Seek the lion that terrorizes the land beyond the fifth Gate. People there live in fear, locked away and isolated, unable to work or sow their fields. What will you do, Hercules? What will you do?
Hercules hears the lion's roar and answers the call. He sets aside all his weapons except for his bow and arrow and begins his hunt. Everyone he encounters sends him in a different direction, but his intuition guides him to the lion’s lair. Alone yet fearless after endless searching, he finally confronts his adversary. The lion roars, and Hercules shoots his arrows, but they prove ineffective. Undeterred, he charges the lion unarmed. The lion, taken aback by his bravery, retreats into the brush. Hercules realizes he must neutralize the threat. He blocks both exits of the lion’s cave, confronts the lion directly, and with his bare hands, he subdues it. The lion’s roars weaken until they cease, and Hercules triumphs through sheer strength and determination.
Understanding Leo
The sign of Leo is symbolized by a curved arc resembling an animal’s tail. Leo, the king of beasts, represents the strong, coordinated, and dominant self that we build over many lifetimes. Each person rises from the masses to develop individuality. When emotions and thoughts unite, they become a powerful tool. With this tool, one must become self-aware and turn toward humanity, bringing light to those in darkness.
The essence of Leo is the self-assured, integrated personality that understands it is part of a larger whole, yet subject to the higher laws of that whole.
