In finding a good marriage chart, it is most important to make sure certain chart rulers are in harmony with other chart rulers, especially houses related to marriage, home, and other life areas important to the couple getting married. Different ages bring different priorities. For example, while young people often want a chart favorable for having and raising children, which will not be as important to an older couple who are not going to have children. People who want to live in one place for the rest of their lives probably shouldn’t marry with the Moon in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces, since these are all “mutable signs” and dualistic in nature. If the Moon rules the home and it’s in a dual sign, it often produces multiple homes, or multiple bases of operation.

Once we find some potential marriage dates, then we have to find which of those dates are in harmony with the specific house rulers and other major players in each individual chart. This is where general astrological knowledge may or may not be helpful. We cannot assume a given position or angle is good in and of itself, since any astrological position could have both positive and negative expressions.

That’s why there is no universally good date where there will be no friction in the marriage. Every chart has its challenges. If obsolete ways were not challenged in a marriage, we'd never grow. We cannot expect things to stay harmonious and rosy in a marriage at all times; this would be contrary to human nature. We grow together by the trials we meet, as long as we are open to becoming "we" rather than "me." A good marriage chart can help each come to move toward the best for each and both, but only if both are willing to cooperate in the journey. One sided relationships never work in the long run. Only those that allow healthy bonding and healthy room to grow will succeed.

I've also found after doing countless marriage charts, a curious thing happens. Once the date is set, each of the pair begins to grow and evolve into what the chart indicates for the marriage. So, for example, if a marriage chart features Sun in Leo and Moon in Sagittarius, each will begin to grow into that Fire trine relationship. Everything in a marriage chart calls each to become the best expression of those planetary factors.

Always pay attention to the position of the Moon and ruler of the Moon, as these factors indicate the “personality” of the marriage and the day to day feeling atmosphere of the marriage journey. As the Moon generally rules the home, if the marriage begins with Moon in fixed Taurus, it will be a much different experience than if the Moon is in mutable Gemini!
