And also the Vernal Equinox down under!! The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 11:50 pm PDT on September 22, 7:50 am BST September 23. This marks the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. It is said that a chart done for the beginning of a season offers a snapshot of the cosmic and literal weather for the next 3 months.

The Equinox marks is the last day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the last day of Winter in the Southern. And yes, I'm already thinking of doing a small book on the subject, stripping the signs of their usual attributes and taking a more universal approach to the subject of the changes of the seasons.

There is an old tradition that offers us two times when "the year begins," one at the Vernal Equinox, the other at the Autumnal. Perhaps that tradition came from explorers who saw the seasons flip between the Northern and Southern, going from the beginning of warm to the beginning of cold as they moved up and down the latitudes.

This is an excellent time for looking at what has ended and what is emerging. We up North have done our Summer labor, and are reaping the harvest of what we've done and not done. In the Southern latitudes, they're beginning to plant the seeds that will grow over the next 180 days.

So if you're "down under," it's the beginning of Spring and beautiful weather. Just remember to have a little compassion for us up here when December 21-22, the Winter Solstice, rolls around and we're freezing while you're enjoying the beach!

Whether North or South, keep following through on the new roles, new initiatives, new feelings, new flow, and new ways of relating to others on more refined levels you’ve already begun to experience since Spring, since the season to come is the time to transfigure our future into more perfect forms. Regardless of where we live, what follows explores elements we all can expect to experience over the next 13 weeks.

The nights will now begin to be longer than the days for 6 months to come in the Northern Hemisphere, with lengthening days in the Southern. The Sun is now in Libra, promising enhanced and expanded relationships and social interactions. We can find new ideals, new ways of measuring and evaluating the balance in things, and new perspectives that offer us a well-rounded understanding.

The charts for the Solstices and Equinoxes provide guideposts for what we can expect the following 90 days in the way of weather, both actual and symbolic. As this Equinox falls a week after the Full Moon, you can find the outer planet placements, aspects and configurations in those articles. That said, I’ll hit the highlights of the important factors in this Equinox chart.

The Autumn Equinox chart shows 3 planets in the first decan of their signs, 4 in the second decan of their signs, and 3 in the third decan (all the outer spiritual triad.) This indicates a three month period of activity with a slight preponderance of the emotional, social, and cultural planes of existence, and a balance between actional, physical, and material planes and the individual, mental, and spiritual levels of existence. Given the first decan planets include Moon, Sun, and Saturn, it’s easy to see that the material areas of our lives will be emphasized during the next 90 days.

Aspects and Configurations Shaping the Season to Come

As you know, in these active aspect sections I include barely separating partile aspects, since they are still in active operation. The outstanding feature of this chart is that all the planets have the Sun/Venus Mutual Reception as their final dispositors except Mercury and Neptune, which are standalone rules of their own signs. That makes the Sun and Venus important as they influence the backdrop to what’s happening.

This chart has some powerful aspects in play. First, we see Sun sesquisquare Jupiter and quincunx Saturn as the primary aspects involving the Sun. This indicates an annoying “spur to action,” though with caution as we navigate predatory forces to “lift ourselves to surer foundations.” The quincunx, as noted in the recent article, shows adjustments and sacrifices. In this case the voids are at 1-2 Taurus and Leo, very powerful degrees showing the productivity is found in electrifying transformative events as well as the ability to play when “school’s closed.”

We also see the Moon at 7 Capricorn, introducing “a new law” or revelation of duties to be fulfilled over the next 3 months. As the Moon is trine Mercury, binovile Mars, trine Jupiter, sesquisquare Uranus, and binovile Neptune, it will be a highly spiritualized season challenging us to see how realizations which seem to go in opposite directions actually share a common base. This opens revelations for any planets or points we have near 4-8 Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, 14-18 Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, and 24-28 Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

Besides these prominent aspects, we also see Mercury trine Jupiter, tredecile Uranus, opposed Neptune and sesquisquare Pluto, offering realizations about how to bring calm and order to that which has neither. That also means the Moon, Mercury, and Jupiter are in a Grand Earth Trine, favoring stability and grounded practicality in the next season.

Other aspects involving planets out to Jupiter include Venus sextile Mars, square Uranus, biquintile Neptune and quadranovile Pluto; Mars triseptile Jupiter, sesquisquare Saturn, biquintile Uranus, and quadranovile Neptune; Jupiter quintile Saturn, semisquare Neptune, and tredecile Pluto.

With so many sesquisquares, expect annoying friction which may not lead to crises, but which have to be dealt with while decreasing our aggravation factor. And with so many quadranoviles, there will be a tremendous number of revelations which involve accepting something or rejecting something on the basis of what we’ve realized or what is yet to be realized.

Jones Pattern, Dispositors, and the Lunar Phase

With continue to have a Splay Jones pattern with all the planets spread out widely with sharp focus in separated areas of life. The First Quarter Lunar phase indicates this season will be focused on emergent activities which drive things forward. It is a building phase, can be too forceful at times, and is focused on “building structures to serve the actualization of objectives and purposes.” It’s said to be a phase of direct action with a sense of “being driven” to accomplish something.

As the Moon is on a degree of the articulation of a new Law, a new responsibility, and a focus on purpose and the power to accomplish it. With Saturn ruling the Moon, go for whatever “self-preservation” opens the door to a new life. As per the Lunar aspects I gave you earlier, it will be a fairly practical if somewhat ghostly period with a lot of revelations of a grounded Earthy nature.

With the element distribution, there is an emphasis on practical things, since we have 2 planets in Air, 5 in Earth, 2 in Water, and 1 in Fire. The coming season is one of freeing ourselves from old “social rigidities” and finding joy in fellowship as we move through our tests of character, using creative imagination to “dominate circumstances.” Mars shows many will have consequences to be reaped which will be liberating in some way, even if things may seem unfair.

So take a look at the vision of a transformed life and world being offered to you as you catch glimpses of a greater sense of community and connectedness. Open to a new archetypal role or vision, let yourself be transformed, and breathe easy as you see all sides of the bigger picture and begin your training to manifest future patterns you’re seeing in the present.

Get ready to accept rewards from Spirit which help you integrate the personality with the Higher Self, and welcome the cooperative/collective turning points indicated by Mars triseptile Jupiter. This opens major movement for those with planets near 13-17 Taurus, 4-8 Cancer, 25-29 Leo, 16-20 Libra, 8-12 Sagittarius, 30 Capricorn-4 Aquarius, and 21-25 Pisces.

Be decisive in pursuing the information and vision you need to make the archetypes real. Cut loose from the past while being careful not to buy into deceptive seductions. Beware of superficial evaluations and assertions since they could have a way of turning from easy to difficult fairly quickly. Hang in there, put your best Self forward, and don’t settle for lesser things when greater things are at stake.

As you do what you need to do, remember to experience yourself evolving as you move through the changes, since by taking a different view you will find new perspectives on what to do and when to do it. Use creative imagination to visualize your ideal and cultivate sensitivity to what’s needed in immediate situations. The “tension of opposites” in Virgo/Pisces holds a promise of productivity, ease of operation, and awareness of the highly specializing factors in motion as long as you don’t buy into misrepresentations.

The next 90 days are radical growth in a new adventure related to our freedom from old rules, restrictions, and limitations. We’re still taking a look back at spiritual factors in play since the Spring, with gifts and unique blessings available in the near future to use in 2024. Look at all you’ve realized this year with an eye to resolving apparent dualities which seem to lead in conflicting directions. This is a season of almost no polarity, no substantial friction, and a lot of annoying realizations which will ultimately lead to material stability and understanding by January.
