Having Your Cake…

A little while ago a woman next to me here at Starbucks shared some photos of an Indonesian restaurant she is going to. I salivated as a perused all the exquisite culinary creations….prawns, shrimp, lobster, green beans, succulent and fresh. I told her that she ruined my appetite for yet another lean cuisine awaiting the microwave.
She laughed and said the Greek restaurant right here in the plaza has some good food, and today is their special on Pitas.
So I walked over and picked up a grilled chicken pita with lettuce, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. I walked back to Starbucks and devoured most of it with almost embarrassing exclamations.
I was surprised at how much I was enjoying it.
For a moment I felt like I was sitting at the Platea back in Greece. The freshly grilled chicken marinated in garlic and other spices awakened my senses.
Our human senses can be really dulled over time. sometimes a good, spicy meal helps to awaken them. Maybe some good Indian food. Sometimes our bodies need that kind of stimulus.
It was the most delicious meal I have had in a long while. I have been accustomed to daily fare consisting mostly of home-made sandwiches, frozen entrees, or eggs.
I know being single is no excuse for not eating real food. Fresh cooked food. And even something as simple as a pita sandwich reminded me that I need to practice what I preach. Which is to savor things more. To treat ourselves to good food.
So I got a dark roast refill to top off my lunch. And they just ground some fresh beans, so it’s an extra treat.
But I don’t want to stop there. After coffee I intend to walk over to the market and buy one of those gooey bakery desserts. Or maybe some french vanilla ice cream. Or both.
