Why Chocolate Is My Spiritual Ritual I Will Never Quit

There’s something I’ve loved ever since I was a child. Not flowers. Not fairy tales. Not fancy toys.
Chocolate.
But not just any chocolate.
I’m talking about real, dark, bitter chocolate—the kind that lingers in your mouth and floods your body with warmth. The kind that doesn’t just taste good, but feels ancient. Like it holds a memory older than this life.
And for the longest time, I thought it was just a craving. A comfort. A guilty pleasure.
Until I realized… it was something much more.
The Sacred Plant Hidden in Plain Sight
At some point along my healing journey, I began to notice a pattern.
When I ate high-quality dark chocolate—especially during sacred rituals, meditation, or channeling work—I was sharper. Clearer. Softer in my body, but expanded in my soul.
There was a connection forming that I couldn’t deny: Chocolate was helping me access the divine.
I began researching—and what I discovered only confirmed what my body already knew:
Chocolate is a Spiritual Ally.
Used ceremonially by the Mayans and Aztecs for millennia, cacao was seen as a bridge between the earthly and celestial realms. In fact, the Latin name for the cacao tree—Theobroma cacao—literally means “food of the gods.”
They weren’t being poetic. They meant it.
How Chocolate Awakens You Energetically
Here’s what you might not know about chocolate—especially in its purest, darkest forms:
- It activates the pineal gland
Chocolate contains theobromine and phenylethylamine (PEA)—compounds that gently stimulate the central nervous system and enhance mental clarity. PEA is often called the “love molecule,” as it’s the same chemical your brain produces when you’re falling in love.
But what’s even more powerful? Chocolate contains anandamide—a neurotransmitter whose name literally means bliss in Sanskrit.
These compounds work together to:
- Enhance mood and emotional receptivity
- Stimulate intuitive channels
- Increase heart coherence
- Activate inner stillness and spiritual awareness
In many traditions, cacao is considered a heart-opening medicine—a teacher plant that allows us to access emotional truth and divine guidance.
And I can tell you from experience: it does.

Why I Won’t Give up Chocolate (And Why You Shouldn’t Either)
There was a time I became curious about it.
Why was this one thing—chocolate—so consistently comforting, so energizing, and yet so deeply centering for me?
I wasn’t using it to numb or escape. Quite the opposite—when I took it in slowly, intentionally, it felt like I was plugging into something ancient. Something that knew how to hold me in the present moment and open me to the divine.
So I started to listen more closely.
Not with guilt or hesitation—but with reverence.
Because it was clear: chocolate wasn’t taking me away from my spiritual path. It was deepening it. Helping me stay in my body while expanding my field. Offering the kind of grounded elevation that so many of us seek in meditation, breathwork, or energy healing.
And what I discovered was this:
Chocolate is not a distraction from the divine—it’s a pathway to it.
When used intentionally, it:
- Grounds your energy while lifting your frequency
- Activates the heart while softening the ego
- Stimulates your inner vision while calming your outer mind
In a world that’s constantly asking us to push, to purify, to ascend—it’s easy to forget that the sacred is often found in what brings us pleasure. What nourishes us. What roots us into the richness of this human experience.
A Personal Practice You Can Try
If this speaks to you, here’s a simple ritual I’ve come to love:
- Choose your chocolate wisely — Look for organic, raw, fair-trade dark chocolate (72% cacao or higher). The fewer ingredients, the better.
- Hold it in your hand. Feel its vibration. Speak an intention into it: “May this connect me to the wisdom of my heart.” Or whatever words rise for you.
- Eat it slowly. Mindfully. Let it melt on your tongue. Let the medicine work.
- Breathe. Meditate. Listen. Notice what shifts in your body, your energy field, your emotions.
What if your body craving chocolate is actually your soul whispering, “I need softness. I need grounding. I need the sacred sweetness of the Earth.”
You don’t have to give it up.
You just have to give it intention.
And the next time you break a piece of chocolate, may it not just nourish your body—but awaken your soul.
Sending you lots of love and high vibrations!
