No Strings...

No Strings...

Greetings, Luminous One!

I hope you had a warm, loving Thanksgiving.

As you may know, I spent it with my husband in Portugal, enjoying sardines instead of turkey. It was a bit strange to be away during our traditional family time, but our explorations soon supplanted any nostalgia that crept in.

Having been inspired by Freddy Silva’s incredible book, First Templar Nation, the primary purpose of our travel was to trace the roots of that secretive order, which dates from the 1100’s and continues (under different names) to this day.

Although there’s very little real evidence left about these elusive knights, Freddy managed to unearth seemingly every piece of remaining information to weave together quite a tale of their reasons for forming and, as his title suggests, their impact on the formation of Portugal.

There’s a lot to say about the Templars, but what impresses me most was their absolute devotion to higher ideals as demonstrated by their selflessness. They swore oaths of poverty and piety, only using their fighting skills when defending those in need.

And, most unusual in medieval times, they believed that there was no need for an intermediary when it came to connecting with God. You can be sure that this was a quietly popular idea when the only other spiritual alternative was the Catholic hierarchy.

The Templar spirit is still alive and well in the Portuguese people, as evidenced by their welcoming nature, their Generosity. Everywhere we went, we were met with warm smiles and gestures of hospitality and even invitations to return.

There was nothing in it for them to be so kind, which is the best – and maybe only – way to be Generous… with no strings attached.

I will be live tomorrow night for Monday Meditation at 7:30pm EST and hope to see you there!

Much love and infinite blessings,
Hope
