How To Keep Things In Perspective

Take a moment to stare at this image above…really take it in.
Notice the colors, the countries, the clouds, and the vast amount of water. Then, notice the black nothingness surrounding it.
Fifty years ago, NASA’s final Apollo 17 mission launched to the moon and during the trip, a crew member took this photograph. It’s an extraordinary view of our planet.
I often look at this photo when I feel overwhelmed or when I start to take things too seriously. It helps me regain a helpful, existential perspective on life. Some things that seem so big are really quite small in comparison.
As we head into the final days of holiday shopping, family visits, and festive (or not-so-festive) events, you might want to do yourself a favor and entertain this perspective, too.
We live on this tiny marble spinning in the middle of nowhere and we’re only here for a very brief period of time. When you’re tempted to make something too important – the friend who shows up late, the last-minute gift you can’t find, Uncle Harry’s annoying behavior, or the pants you can’t squeeze into, remember where you are.
Allow perspective to lead you to a calm inner state.
Love,
Cheryl
