Ego gives you a separate and limited definition of self to fall back on and make your home, and it calls this security.

Whenever you feel any degree of tension or stress, this is what is happening–you are attempting to use thought to find a home that can never be your true home. It may seem to be that a person “out there” has a very wrong and unfair view, and this is the cause of your tension, but this is not so. Here you are, separate from that one, with a more accurate view. Here is the limited home of your separate identity you are trying to make safe, but it can never be safe.

You can only experience in accordance with past thought. This is all that is happening when it seems that one over there has it all wrong, and it’s meaningless. The door is always open to your true home, and you can turn away and rest here. Your true home is always in the one you are calling other, with the one you are calling other.

Ego gives you separate and limited definitions of the selves you call other. Ego may say they are speaking from foolishness, and ego has made both them and you other. Ego may say there is a better one over there–much better than the one standing next to them. You may give thanks for the betterness of that one over there, but this obligates you to criticize the one next to them.

Ego says you like praise and dislike criticism, and ego supplies you with both to apply to both your separate self and all the selves you call other. All meaningless. Here you are, together, as one. There is no difference between you. The differences you perceive are echoes of the past, and that’s all they can ever be. Meaningless. All the meaning is in your unity.

Ego guides you to spend much time analyzing and defining these separate selves. You can notice. You can notice when the sorting and analyzing is active, when you are believing you are making sense out comparing one to another, pitting one against another. You can notice that you are believing ego’s thoughts, and when you do, you can open up to true thoughts. Ego’s thoughts can never be anything more than false. Yes, you can perceive in accordance with ego’s thoughts, but you don’t have to. You can perceive in accordance with Spirit’s thoughts, which always gift everyone.

Ego gives you thoughts of defense put in place in order to deal with separate selves. Notice these border walls and barriers. You don’t have to attempt to tear anything down, to reverse anything. Just notice the building of defenses, the planning, the thinking. Notice how it feels. There is always a remedy for how this feels, and it is always here now.
