Tools For Discerning Between Voice of Heart & Ego

Hello friends,

Today I'd like to give you tools for discerning between the voice of your heart and ego. This skill is even more important in these times of mega change.

Background

• The heart is your authentic self: guided by love and compassion. This part of you desires growth, peace, and harmony. It doesn't demand, but speaks in a way that is peaceful and includes others. The heart's voice is usually calm and peaceful. When you are coming from your heart, there's a feeling of openness - for you are aligned with your true self. The heart's voice often prioritizes the greater good, collaboration, and care for others; it's not purely self-serving. There is honesty when your heart speaks, truth delivered with kindness and understanding. Space is left for others to respond to what you say. When it's your heart speaking, there's often a feeling of expansion, openness, and freedom. This is what we call "lightness of being."
• The ego is your conditioned mind driven by fear and desire. The ego's voice is often motivated by insecurity, fear, and the desire for external validation, power, or control. It's tied to the idea of "I" or "me" and focuses on self-interest. Judgmental or critical, the ego often uses negative self-talk, criticizing you for not being enough or not having enough. It focuses on comparisons - e.g. "they have it better or easier" etc. The ego has no patience for learning, and will wear you out with its constant focus on external results and outcomes. The ego is concerned with comparison, competition, and being better than others. It's focus is on winning. It often creates a sense of stress, anxiety, or urgency - you may feel overwhelmed.

All of us are in a metamorphosis in these times. We are evolving out of an ego-driven self into our authentic self that is heart centered. The shift will look differently from person to person. Trust, however, that a shift is underway in you right now!

To help facilitate the momentum of this shift in your life:

• Become more practiced with inner work - tuning into your inner self. This needs to be regular throughout the day. The more you do this, the more you can discern which voice is guiding you. Over time, you'll get better at recognizing and honoring the voice of your heart over the pull of your ego.
• Take moments throughout the day for stillness - close your eyes, breathe deeply, and observe how each voice feels in your body. The heart will often bring a sense of calm, while the ego may feel like a tense knot.
• Remember that you are naturally intuitive - the heart speaks through intuition, often in a way that feels clear and simple, even if it's hard to explain. The ego can cloud this with doubt and overthinking.
