A detox is a personal endeavor to liberate the body of toxins or harmful substances over a set amount of time.
This is accomplished through a diet, supplements, or abstaining from the source that is distributing the toxin. A primary example of this is nicotine detox supplements. Quality detox supplements can flush out toxins from the system within a few days.
Both a vegan and an organic detox are another example. They are equally very effective for flushing toxins out of your system. However, each individual cleanse has different benefits for the body. Before we talk about the reason why to choose each detox, let's first explain both options so you’re able to make a more informed decision.
What Does “Organic” Mean?
If produce is organic, it means it's grown on a certified farm that:
- Doesn’t use manufactured chemicals such as pesticides or fertilizers (with minimal exceptions)
- Forbids Genetic engineering (which means no Genetically Modified Organisms, otherwise known as GMOs)
- Is checked regularly to make sure it meets these requirements
If animal products are organic, that means that the livestock:
- Are not given antibiotics or growth hormones
- Are uncaged and able to wonder
- Eat organic feed
- For disease prevention, a natural method is used instead of medicine
If a product (such as a supplement) is labeled organic, it means that it is made of at least 95% organic ingredients.
Benefits of an Organic Detox
Organic products are free from many harmful contaminators that are often found in our diet. This intake of higher quality products provides more sustenance. When these chemicals are no longer consumed, it gives the body time to clear toxins previously ingested. When those pollutants are gone, it gives our bodies the chance to naturally feel better.
Some examples of this would be:
- Toxins in the body occasionally impact the skin. In some cases, when these preservatives are cleared from the system, the skin will clear up.
- Improved overall health
- Better immune system
- Weight loss (on occasion)
- Higher nutrient intake
What Does “Vegan” Mean?
For a product to be labeled vegan, It is absent of any animal components. This is more than just meat– it’s any animal byproduct, such as eggs, milk, or honey.
Vegan and Organic, although similar, are not the same. Many vegan products are not organic, and vice versa.
Benefits of a Vegan Detox
There are many advantages of doing a vegan detox, as it is overall beneficial to the body. Some benefits are:
- A decreased level of cholesterol
- A decreased chance of developing chronic pain
- A lowered chance of developing a type of cancer
- Increased amounts of vitamins and antioxidants
- An overall feeling of health
- Increased likelihood of weight loss
- Because this detox helps lower blood sugar levels, it's helpful for those who have diabetes
Choosing Between Organic or Vegan
Generally, the purpose of any detox is to purify the body by clearing out harmful toxins. Keep in mind that when deciding between vegan or organic, there are discrepancies between the two. For you personally, the best option is dependent on the motivation behind your detoxification.
An organic detox is the most beneficial if:
- Your primary goal is to eliminate poisonous chemicals in the body and replace them with substance. (Consuming organic ingredients means you are no longer intaking artificial chemicals. This gives your body time to clean out previously ingested toxins of this nature).
- You don't want to make too many drastic changes to the things you take into your body. (A vegan detox is a big lifestyle change. However, although an organic detox can be expensive, it doesn’t require an omission of as many products as a vegan detox).
A Vegan Detox is the most beneficial if you:
- Have diabetes and want to lower your glucose levels. A meatless diet is full of fiber. Fiber production helps regulate blood sugar and keep it in a healthy place.
- Have high cholesterol and need to bring it down to a lower level
- Want to focus on preventing future illnesses. Taking healthy steps now increases the chances of a healthier future.
- Want to lose weight. Because a vegan detox is plant based, there’s a high chance the detox will allow the body to drop extra fat
- Are concerned about consumption and misuse of animals. If you are worried about how what we do affects animals and the planet, this might be a good solution for you.
Although a vegan or organic label doesn't mean the same thing, there are some detox products that are certified as both, such as the NicoClean Detox.
Selecting an organic or vegan detox is entirely contingent on what you are hoping to achieve during the purification process. Your aspirations, beliefs and culture will provide clarity on which is the best choice for you.
