Make No More Excuses

Do you make excuses?
Could your reasons behind your action or lack of action be really excuses in disguise?
If you don’t recognize your excuses, here are some examples….
- I can’t.
- I simply can’t.
- I might.
-
I try.
- when I am ready, I will.
- maybe tomorrow.
- maybe next week.
- maybe next year.
- It is impossible.
- It is just too difficult.
Well, one of life’s worst habits is making excuses. Excuses that you can give in place of taking needed actions. If you consistently focus on how difficult doing something is, you can stop yourself from doing and becoming your best.
I hear excuses a lot. Here are some that I hear from prospective clients who confessed to having huge money blocks but who are unwilling to step up:
- I don’t have time.
- I have got no money to buy a life-changing program. Not right now.
- I am not ready.
- I am commitment phobic. I cannot commit to working with you in a program.
- I don’t need it (“it” being inner work), despite facing a slew of negative issues.
- I am not IT-savvy.
- I don’t have Skype and so, I can’t take your coaching services.
- My spouse does not approve.
- My cat just died.
I recognise them now as I used to be prolific with giving excuses ha
One of the best excuses that I gave for being unable to do more networking: my children.
The thing is I love spending time with my children. Since having them, I had felt responsible for their well-being. Then again, which parent doesn’t? Except that I had been willing to set aside a corporate career for them. Through their growing years, I have made a point to always be around for them after school.
Also, I used to find that it took tremendous effort to attend networking outings and outside gatherings. I dread making evening appointments. Admittedly, I do enjoy quiet time. Hence, I would often reject invitations with plenty of excuses, since most engagements are in the evenings. The result was that I started to feel rather disconnected from the outside world.
However, in the last two years, I am realising the importance of keeping contact. While I am at heart an introvert, I also like connecting with friends and making new ones. I enjoy making one-on-one and small group connections. I have since decided that it is best to have a balance.
Going forward, I have made the intention of “no more excuses” when it comes to doing what is necessary to growing my business. Yes, there will be times when I need to place family priorities first. But I am going to start attending more social events and networking functions from now on. Also, I found a way round by offering my own home as a venue for some of the gatherings. I have been rather busy playing the hostess since
Stop Making Excuses
If you find yourself giving plenty of excuses, it is time to stop.
Don’t expect phenomenal results from making excuses. If you choose to make excuses, you have to realize that you are not wanting success badly enough!
Avoid saying “it can’t be done”. Rather, focus on how you can get it done.
Challenge yourself to go beyond your comfort zone. Make the decision that is best for moving your business or career forward. This is time invested wisely rather than long hours on Facebook checking out other people’s profiles.
If you are waiting for conditions to be perfect before you take action, you will never be ready. Get started – even a small step is a step!
Here is how you can start….ask yourself: what would happen if I have no more excuses?
Now, what is or was your favourite excuse? Share in the comments below.
