Eleven = Evelen
Her name was spelled
with a y, as mine, her
namesake is.
Though with a further modification.
She is with me so oft
since parting this plane.
No doubt from a long line
of pixies.
The impishness could never quite
contain itself.
Eyes ever glimmering
with mischief of the
best, rarest kind.
Reminding me, still,
to see it all
as play.
Even the hardest bits.
Even with odds.
She is my grandma.
Mother of my mother.
Though we called her Nonni —
the plural in Italian for grandparents
— unknowingly we were sussing
the great evenness of her
being, embodying
the divine male
and female
energies of
life equally.
Teaching the great mystery
as readily as the
workaday just
being who
she was,
and is.
Magic in measure
with the mundane
of existence was
her alchemy.
Pure gold
that sparkles
with her eyes
most days of
my journey
here, there.
I hadn't realized
until this morn,
that her name
equals eleven.
Two parallel lines
that stand tall
and reflect
a greater
truth:
1+1=1.
Even
times
two.
