The Virgo (Spring Cleaning) Full Moon

February 23rd ~ March 1st
When the doors of perception are cleansed, man will see things as they truly are, infinite. ~ William Blake
The Full Moon on February 24th (or 23rd) at 5º Virgo 23’ is our Spring-Cleaning Full Moon here in the northern hemisphere. A time of celebration in the East, the Spring Festival in China is the culmination of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Lanterns are lit, and fireworks light up the skies. It is also a day to do a thorough Spring cleaning, sweeping out the remnants of the year that was, in preparation for the year to come. The Full Moon at the tail end of Winter is when the worms and snakes begin to slither up from the underground, like Persephone once again emerging from the Dark Lord’s lair.
Out of the darkness of Winter we sweep away the accumulated dust of our lives, physically and psychically, in order to set the stage for the rebirth and renewal of Spring. It is time to leave behind that which no longer serves us, and may be preventing us from growing. All the more poignant with an opposition to Saturn in Pisces, we are being asked to reassess those things that you may have been trying to ignore, but can not and will not be ignored any longer. It is time to tie up all those loose ends.
One of the reasons you may be ignoring these problems is either because they require too much work, or will end up being more involved than at first realized; or worse yet, there is nothing that can be done about it. If that is the case, it may be that you are being asked to accept your current circumstances for what they are. And if so, is there something that you can change in your outlook that will allow you to do so?
The truth is, you aren’t going to be able to do anything about your current obstacles, until you are willing to address, and/or accept, whatever is standing in your way. It may be, when you explore the possibilities that things may not be quite as hopeless as they seem. They may take a little longer to work themselves out, but at least make yourself aware of your options. And don’t allow fear or anxiety to stand in the way of you achieving your dreams. For nothing will be accomplished if you simply give up or give in.
Saturn in Pisces does not want us to give up. But what he will be showing us, is what is or is not feasible, practical or realistic. And then with what is left over, we are then being asked to make our dreams a closer reality. It may not be perfect. And it may not be exactly what we hoped for. But at least it will be achievable.
The Virgo Full Moon opposes Sun, Mercury and Saturn in Pisces, creating a window of culmination along the Virgo/Pisces axis. We see the results of actions made in the past, and the fruition of our efforts. Whether they be rewards or consequences, nothing is hidden long in the light of a Full Moon.
Some things to consider with the Full Moon in Virgo:
- Are you feeling overworked, overextended, or overwhelmed? This is a message for you to slow down, set better boundaries, cut back, and/or use your time more efficiently.
- Is there a project that you’ve been neglecting, but needs tending to? Is this because it feels like too much work? Is tedious? Look for ways to make the project more manageable. Break it up into pieces. You may not be able to tackle it all at once, but if you fix this piece of it right here, that will be enough.
- Are you feeling overwhelmed by the chaos of your life? The dishes piling up? The laundry taking on a life of its own? The clutter creating its own statement? Virgo is a sign of organization and efficiency. Create a plan and a road map. Perhaps beginning with this one dish right here.
The daily responsibilities, the shoulds, and supposed to’s can pile up like so much laundry and so many dishes in the sink. And it can at times appear to be insurmountable. But instead of being overwhelmed by the enormity of it all, focus in on that one dish. Fold that one shirt. And then go to the next and the next. And before you know it, you will have achieved your goals. James Gordon Gilkey reminds us to remember the hour glass:
Imagine that there is an hour glass on your desk. Connecting the bowl at the top with the bowl at the bottom is a tube so thin that only one grain of sand can pass through it at a time. That is the true picture of your life, even on a super busy day, The crowded hours come to you always one moment at a time. That is the only way they can come. The day may bring many tasks, many problems, strains, but invariably they come in single file. You want to gain emotional poise? Remember the hour glass, the grains of sand dropping one by one. ~ James Gordon Gilkey
