Sabian Symbol, Jones Pattern, Evolutionary Configurations, and More.

This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this New Moon at 17 Gemini on June 6.

This brings the Light of an active transmutation of physical energy into mind power which helps us see the beauty in our view. Have faith, sense what is needed for nourishment, and bring it up from the well of Life.

This month brings the quick extension into space and time of the new time, new way, and new day set into motion at the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction at 22 Taurus in late April. That conjunction, in effect for 13 or more years, promised we have seen or will see the “white dove flying over troubled waters.” That symbolized a sign from Spirit that having endured our “ordeal,” we could now move into a new life. This is the first point of purification and a turn from the past into new views of possibilities.

With so many planets between Pisces and Gemini, keep forgiving and releasing the past, and embrace the rapid fire new information and new views in front of you. Keep the focus on the “Here/Now,” face forward, bless the rapidly fading past, and feel the lightness of being free to move forward in your life!

The span between 16-20 Gemini is about externalizing or communicating something in the actional material levels of life. We’ve all been “paying dues” or finished paying dues since the 2023 Libra Solar eclipse, freeing us for new vistas of growth and enjoyment. The next month is a time to allow new ideas to be “made real” as you act with versatility and adaptability.

The Planetary Spread

In this chart, because the inner planets are between early and mid-Gemini in a 10+ degree span, that’s the main focus for the next 4 weeks. At this point, all the planets are within the 134+ degree span between 2 Aquarius and 17 Gemini, creating a classic Bundle Jones pattern. At this time we have planets in Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, and Gemini.

Depending on the position of the Moon and the inner planets relative to the outer planets, different months bring us different Jones Patterns. These patterns operate their own independent influence, regardless of which planet is in which sign.

Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in early Aquarius, and proceeds through Saturn in mid-Pisces, Neptune in late Pisces, Uranus in late Taurus and ends with Jupiter in early Gemini. (We don’t include TransPluto, since Jones didn’t use it in defining his patterns). Because we have 5 signs represented in a 134+ degree span with no other signs occupied, this chart is a “Bundle” Jones Pattern, said to be the rarest of all patterns.

The Bundle Pattern and how it works

This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately one third of the signs with two thirds unoccupied, creates “the least common of the seven basic differentiations,” and creates a “bunching of interests or the intensive self-gathering which is least responsive to any universal stimulus” and as Dr. Jones noted in a section on another pattern, a “special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience” which characterizes the Bundle people.

He continues that “the meaning of the concentration of the ten planets in one single third of the zodiac is that the course of the native’s life is held to certain narrow bounds of opportunism,” and they are “almost completely inhibited, in contrast with the outstanding lack of inhibition in the Splash pattern. He then goes on to say that “Characteristic of the Bundle type is an outstanding capacity for making much of little, or for building small beginnings into great and often unanticipated final results.” He also notes this type can mold their world “by some highly centralized force of self-concentration.” This type is not universal in the slightest, but rather “brings universe to center.”

With Pluto in Aquarius leading the concentration of planets, and thus the entry to the entire pattern, it shows we need to be alert to the seeds of a future unifying vision, or the transformational possibilities related to 2 Aquarius, dealing with being “liberated from adverse conditions through spectacular developments” accompanying a “cosmic visitation.” This entry to the Bundle tells us to free ourselves to find new ways to view our roles within the larger collective effort unfolding these past few years.

With Venus in Gemini (and the Lunation amping up the signal!) we’ll finish experience with an expanded sense of what we know and what we need to communicate, or how to turn our instinct into higher level thinking and perception. This will open a thousand vistas for those who follow their curiosity; just remember that a lot of it may be extraneous or a distraction, so stay focused on the puzzle you’re solving and don’t get involved with passing ideas of no relevance or substance in the new world you’re moving into.

This leads with actional contribution, and closes with actional exteriorization. Because the leading edge is Aquarian Air, approach experience with a pragmatic detachment, friendliness, and broad vision of how to make a greater contribution to your world with an eye to the seeds of the future. Because the closing planet is Gemini Air, by the time we’re done with a given experience, we’ll know many more ways of understanding and communicating things which we like or which catch our attention.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon

A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following month will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at falls at 17 Gemini, and it is said that the second third (decan) of any sign deals with the emotional, social, and cultural levels of life, and being the second decan of Gemini it has a sub-influence of Libra with an added dose of Mars. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.

The Sabian Symbol for the 17th degree of Gemini is ““he head of health dissolved into the head of mentality.” In the original Dr. Jones' class notes on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of “Progression from robust participation in outer things to a realization of deeper realities,” “inborn wisdom,” and “steady growth.”

In The Astrological Mandala he states this degree is “the transformation of physical vitality into the power to build concepts and intellectual formulations through which knowledge can be transferred.” He offers this is a stage of “quiet and steady metamorphosis of biological energy into mind power.”

He continues “what is pictured is the transformation of emotions into mind, of instincts into thoughts – a process of mental metamorphosis.” It is the counterpoint degree in the span of Restlessness on the actional level of the scene of Exteriorization in the Act of Differentiation.

Dr. Marc Jones, author of the Sabian Symbols, says this degree is about our “achievement on the level of spiritual or eternal fellowship” as a “focus of selfhood in conscious self-awareness.” We are told this is a degree of active imagination and appreciation for what we share with others. He states “well-rounded individuality (is)… the condition of all real progress.”

He offers us the keyword “DEVELOPMENT.” He states this degree, when acting in a positive manner, is “the effective orientation of selfhood in an over-all vision.”

From this symbol it seems the specific theme of the next month is one of mental metamorphosis and a reoriented vision of self, resulting from becoming more well-rounded in our view. This period will awaken many ideas which will gestate until they explode into pure potential and action in mid-August when Mars conjuncts Jupiter on this degree.

Important Aspects

Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. Partile separating aspects show what’s been going on in the Now. This section covers only forming and partile separating aspects.

This New Moon has relatively few aspects. The Lunation is combust Venus, conjunct Mercury, square Saturn, and sesquisquare Pluto; Mercury is conjunct Venus novile Mars, binovile Saturn, and bielftile Neptune; Venus is conjunct the Sun, square Saturn, and sesquisquare Pluto; and the Sun makes the same aspects as the Moon.

Outer planet aspects feature Mars decile Jupiter, novile Saturn, semisextile Neptune, and square Pluto (out of sign); Jupiter is quintile Saturn and trine Pluto; Saturn is bielftile Uranus and semisquare Pluto via translation of light; and there are no aspects between Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

This month the friction is provided by 4 squares, 1 semisquare, and 3 sesquisquares. The squares challenge “right action” at a turning point of this year’s Saturn in Pisces lessons, especially when combined with the sesquisquares to Pluto pulling the semisquare from Saturn back into play.

The long term pressure of Saturn semisquare Pluto is a time of serious internal decisions and movement related to the emergent structure of that which purifies everything. It’s been in play during the recent global conflicts. Adapt, purify, imagine, adjust, and show good humor while not letting the aggravation factor of the sesquisquares get to you.

Mars out of sign square Pluto shows an eruption is just around the corner. If you can’t work then play, and say goodbye to old memories of circumstances which are no more.

Special Configurations in Evolutionary Astrology

This month we continue to have the rare circumstance of only 2 special evolutionary configurations.

1) The Lunation is square Saturn and sesquisquare Pluto, bringing the Saturn semisquare Pluto back into play via translation of light. This creates three resonant points in an “8 Pointed Star of the Need for Right Action.” This will primarily affect planets and points near 1-5 Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Taurus, and 16-20 Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Use the Moon/Sun/Venus stellium to create a more beautiful or valuable view or take on things and renew yourself through any sort of purification which allows “your will to Wholeness” to “break up old complexes.”

2) Mercury is novile Mars and binovile Saturn while Mars is novile Saturn. This creates three resonant points of a “9 Pointed Star of Spiritual Realizations.” Affected areas include 6-10 Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, 16-20 Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, and 26-30 Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. If you’re affected, expect a lot of realizations, or things coming up after a period of gestation, or the understanding that some things may be put on hold for a while. If that’s the case, remember that “to defer is not to abandon.”

Explaining Harmonics

Aspects in the same series are considered to be various stages of “harmonics” for each series. As I mentioned before, we have very few aspects this month. In the 7th harmonic aspect series of “destiny,” this month we have the VERY rare occurrence of no aspects in this series. In the 5th, 10th, 15th and 24th harmonic specialization series, we have 1 decile and 1 quintile. The 9th harmonic gives us 2 noviles and 1 binovile, and in the 11th harmonic faith series there is 2 bielftile.

The novile (9th harmonic), septile (7th harmonic) and elftile (11th harmonic) series all feature spiritual aspects. All novile series (9th harmonic) aspects indicate things which need to be put on the shelf for a while, or that which has been waiting can now move forward. They represent gestative energies that can lead to great spiritual realizations. Septile series aspects represent forks in the road of destiny, while the 11th harmonic elftile series indicate that faith is required to deal with transcending some dualities, issues and points of evolution where we must make a leap of faith to attain a form of mastery over that type of duality. This series tests our faith. Both the 7th and 11th series involve non-rational aspect values, bringing an element of irrationality in behavior and circumstances.

The quintile and biquintile (5th harmonic) and related 10th (decile and tredecile), 15th (quindecile), and 20th harmonic (vigintile) aspects are all specialization aspects. Element Balance and Who’s Leading the Sun

This month shows a big imbalance in the elements, with the 10 traditional planets occupying 5 signs. We have 1 planet in Fire (inspiration and warmth), 1 planet in Earth (practical grounding), 6 in Air (relatedness and communicating), and 2 in Water (feelings and experiencing). This month we have very few signs represented.

Air and Earth are “cool” elements, while Fire and Water are “hot” elements. With this distribution, it’s hugely out of balance, with very little Earth for the first time in a year! Even though all the Fire is provided by only Mars in Aries, that’s a powerful placement, as is the Gemini stellium so there is a lot more heat than cool.

The current sequence at present of Deciding, Feeling, and Thinking

We’ve been through several different sequences over the past few months. There are six patterns, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. This continues the prior pattern. For now, as a process of moving through events, the most effective “firing sequence” for approaching life and experience over the next four weeks involves beginning activity with a thought, a vision, or an understanding, followed by a decision or action.

What is your vision or understanding telling you that you must do? Are your ideas inspiring action? Let your knowledge lead you to make clear decisions.

Once we’ve made a decision and acted on it, then find a quiet space within and without so you can go deep into how you feel about that action or decision. Take the time to process the experience of what you’ve done. So open your mind to alternative ways of doing or deciding something, and then once you’ve done it, take the time to feel what you just did, since that will lead you to new understanding and a new vision.

So learn, communicate, research, and then do what you have to do to further that vision. Then feel the experience and the flow, since these will lead you to the next vision. This pattern can seem too mental and evaluative, so be patient as the flow reveals itself. When this pattern is healthy it provides an objective and sensitive take on things. It just needs to take time to experience what it just did.

Summing Up

This New Moon will bring us growth, challenge, purifications, wisdom, and an expanded understanding. While there will be friction and turning points, consider this a training period for what we’ll have to do or how to respond in August. These squares can release the positive Saturn potential through understanding there is spiritual power in knowing how to generate compassion and closure.

While Saturn’s in Pisces, we are learning about the collective field and techniques of “non-local awareness” while developing our subtle senses of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience. Forgiveness allows Divine Grace to manifest, and the quicker things flow down the timestream the less of an obstruction they’ll be.

Saturn in Pisces is teaching us how to demonstrate practical compassion as we live at a higher level than we used to. We are now living the life renewal we “heard as a call” last June, and are now having to prepare for a symbolic “feast.”

We’ve finished a time of saying goodbye to old ways, places, and people, However, since all forms pass away in this impermanent world, this created space for new ways and new experiences since there’s more potential than there is in whatever has left. Celebrate the uplifting energies at play in your chart, and let go of memories which don’t serve the flow into the future. Feel the lightness of your unique evolutionary dance through space and time. We’re all moving from the interpersonal to the transpersonal level of focus.

Neptune is showing the way to “let go let god” as we approach the threshold of Neptune in Aries. For now, practice sensing the flow and simultaneity of knowing and experiencing a vaster connection to the collective field. This prepares us for receiving what we need to walk into the new collective reality of Neptune in Aries in 2025!

We now are encouraged to explore and enjoy the new life, new land, new field and new focus already rapidly unfolding. Be brave as you get clear about what dances you want to do and which things you’ll need to express as part of your new life roles to play. The future is now, and will get clearer over the next few weeks.

The Long View

In 2020 we entered a transition phase in human history. While we will be functioning within the Capricorn cycles we began then, we also have begun an era unknown to humanity since the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, we were still in the depth of the Age of Pisces, so the awakening of new ideas then were relative to the old era, whereas what’s coming involves wave after wave of Aquarian energies, pushing us to the coming Great Age emerging in the second half of this century.

The long wave Aquarian pulses were initially set into motion by the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, marking the initiation of archetypal Aquarian preliminary structures offered by Saturn. The promise and potential of the new Aquarian pulse then began to expand into a greater social and cultural vision beginning at the Jupiter conjunction with Saturn, the Grand Mutation of the Solstice also at 1 Aquarius. So we have 20 years of Aquarian energies set into motion by that conjunction!

All Aquarian transits and conjunctions in 2022, 2023, and 2024 have given a new impetus and new expression to the Aquarian structures which took shape in 2021. Each transit strengthens the Pluto in Aquarius “generation” of the 21st century which lasts until 2043. As there will be a Jupiter conjunction with Pluto at 15 Aquarius in 2033, we’ll see the “expansion of the Angels of the Age of Aquarius” at that time.

2021 opened a new adventure for all of us, and the long term “metamorphosis” we went through showed us what the beginning of the coming Age of Aquarius is about. 2022 helped us remember we are Beings of Light, a Superstar shining the Light of our Eternal Love into our world. We’re now expanding our spiritual knowledge, understanding, and effective forms of service, and have entered a new phase with Mars in a new Sun/Mars conjunction cycle.

New groups of Spiritual communities have formed since 2021, and are being given a boost this year. Those which are Aquarian in nature will be “lifted on the wings of angels” in 2024. Trust the process. Revolution is in the air! And when you find things and people of eternal worth, value them with all your heart.
