- The Mystery of Life Is A Science Experiment -

The Full Moon of Sun in Cancer and Moon in Capricorn is a “turning point” Full Moon, and this one activates “spiritual linkage through emotional stress” and the “blessings which come after the death of useless things,” so be enthusiastic as you release heart power and potential.

The imbalances show the way to power, as we reach a fork in the road of our future. This is the final activation of The Grand Irrationality!

This is the first Full Moon after the previous three Full Moons, collectively known as the “Three High Moons” of the Northern Hemispheric Spring. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus through anchoring those themes in expression. This is the Light of reoriented individual spirituality expressed through understanding that life is a science lab where we see how Nature works across all realms.

This initiating, questing, reorienting and dedicated Full Moon occurs at 4:39 am PDT, 12:39 pm BST on July 3, and falls at the 12th degree of Cancer and Capricorn. This one keeps the focus on our individual spirituality and allows us to go deeper into the mystery of our existence and see life from an experimental point of view. Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one gives us the ability to discover new allegiances, new needs, and new spiritual sensitivities. This one brings “spiritual linkage through emotional stress” which brings blessings “after the death of useless things.”

Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

An Overview

This Full Moon opens a new sensitivity, new cares, new dedications, and the continued awakening to a new life. The “white dove” has brought us all “a message” these past weeks, and now we stand on the threshold of a new sense of mission. There will be an element of needing to stand for what we believe in, though this must be seen in the larger context of a greater life consecration to some “sacred service.”

This is another Full Moon focused on individual and spiritual levels of functioning, awareness, and purpose. We now move into a time of major “self-gathering” to find something about a revelation being born for all of us, where gratitude and appreciation will accomplish more than power plays. There will be an element of “taming and training” of ego, so remember to be playful and/or creative as you shed all you no longer need, and are clear about how “the above and below” are being linked within you. Anything you have to release will help you in responding to the “call to renewal” we’re already hearing from distant sources, both without and within.

As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. This Full Moon brings the Light of the Gemini New Moon involving our outreach to a new way of life, perhaps moving “out of the woods toward the distant city.” We’ve all be exposed to forms of beauty the past two weeks in the context of some life renewal involving others.

That New Moon has been very productive in many ways, and taken us closer to Source, or some element of our “distant past.” That New Moon was about externalizing some idea, some element of our spiritual uniqueness, with a lot of friction showing the need to divorce the past while claiming our rights. That was a “fork in the road” Lunation, with major openings to come in the last half of 2024 based in what we’re learning or externalizing now.

This Full Moon shows Uranus leading the Sun, thus becoming “the entry to the great Light.” This means uniqueness and our spiritual individuality are the means by which we come to illumination, so be original in your thinking, and allow your consciousness to experience high states as you open to the adventure of it being a new time, a new way, and a new day.

Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?

This Lunation is the third Full Moon where the Sun is in a different sign (Cancer) as it was in the Gemini New Moon two weeks ago. We are now at the beginning of “the reverse order” of the Sun/Moon relationship cycle, as the Light of the New Moon is in a different sign than the Light of the Full Moon.

There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. The Sun was in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At the August 2020 Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo.

August 2021 brought us the New Moon Sun at 17 Leo and Full Moon Sun is at 30 Leo, beginning the natural order which continued through the New Moon of late February 2023 at 2 Pisces which was followed by the Full Moon at 17 Pisces. This shifted in April 2023 with a New Moon at 30 Aries followed by a Full Moon Sun at 15 Taurus. You can find out more about the “seed forms” of the New Moon two weeks ago by going to the archives.

Past As Prologue

The 2020-22 Eclipses moved us all in new directions, reorienting wherever we have Taurus, Cancer, Gemini, Scorpio, and Sagittarius in our charts. All Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” removing what is obsolete in our lives. These losses clean out psychic and physical spaces so we can find new life substance. Due to what we’ve eliminated the past 2 years we now have a wider view of our life and the Life around us as humanity begins a new 20 year Aquarian era.

As you know from other articles, 2020 was the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building that year launching a 200 year Air era on the December Solstice with Jupiter conjuncting Saturn at 1 Aquarius. However, we will still be “under the beams” of the powerful conjunctions in Capricorn, since between January and March 2020 we began new Saturn/Pluto, Jupiter/Pluto, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. The first of these launched a new 33 year era into motion.

Due to these conjunctions in late Capricorn and both Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions at 1 Aquarius, we are in a long term period of finding wisdom by understanding transfiguration and enlightenment as verbs rather than nouns. We’ve now officially taken the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not yet “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050. And to note, there will be plenty of people and ideas from the Age of Pisces which will continue into the next century as part of the bridging process from past to future as humanity discovers new Aquarian ideas and sheds old Piscean ones.

Planetary Distribution

At this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart the Sun at 12 Cancer through Mars at 26 Leo) is 44+ degrees, a fairly wide span. This will be the primary area stimulated in our charts. At this time because all the inner planets are far outside the outer planet span, we’ve now shifted out of several months of Full Moon Bucket Jones patterns and have begun a run of different patterns over the coming months.

Right now all the planets are clustered in 5 signs. As each of these has gaps between them, as well as within them, the planets are now doing “dual pulses” in their signs. From now through November, the inner planets will be at the far side of the zodiac from the outer planets. This month the Moon adds a Capricorn focus at the leading edge of the occupied span.

Because the unoccupied span runs 135+ degrees and the Moon is in Capricorn making a wide sesquisquare to Mars, we now have a “Locomotive” Jones pattern. In this chart we have 2 oppositions made by the Moon to Sun and Mercury. In this “tensional awareness field” involving 10-17 Cancer/Capricorn, the two oppositions form a frictional Evolutionary configuration which I’ll speak of in part 3.

At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 5 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, then moves through Saturn in in early Pisces, Neptune in late Pisces, Jupiter in mid-Taurus and finishes with Uranus in late Taurus. At this time, there’s another empty span of 49+ from Uranus to the Sun, and then another gap of 38+ degrees between Mercury and Venus. The empty span from Mars at 26 Leo to the Moon at 12 Capricorn creates a “Locomotive” pattern.

So What is a “Locomotive” Jones Pattern and how does it work?

This type of spread, with all the planets occupying 2/3 of the signs with an empty third, creates an imbalance that leads to power if we can find the compensatory “weight” to make things move forward smoothly rather than rock side to side creating friction. Target what is needed, and provide compensatory energies accordingly.

As Marc Jones put it, “this type of horoscope reveals a balance of this sort in the life. A third part of things… consisting of a free span in experience, is set against a two-thirds part, embracing a related but limited span in experience…. The basis of the dynamic is found in the native’s resulting strong sense of a lack or a need, of a problem to be solved, a task to be achieved in the social and intellectual world around him.”

Dr. Jones states “The temperament reveals a self-driving individuality, an executive eccentricity that is not … unbalance but rather is power. It exhibits a dynamic and exceptionally practical capacity which is neither the broad universality of the Splash pattern, nor the special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience characteristic of the Bundle people.

He goes on to state “The Locomotive classification is … moved more by external factors in the environment than by aspects of its own character. The point of application for the powers of the self is shown … by the “leading planet,” or the one of the two in the empty trine which forms its aspect clockwise in the zodiac, irrespective of any distinction as “applying” or “separating.”

At this time, The Moon is the leading planet and Mars is the closing planet of the Locomotive. Approach experience through seeing the scientific principles underlying all manifestation, regarding life as a type of “science lab.” With Mars closing, see all experience as giving you inspiration, emotional intensity, and an ability to focus your heart and/or creativity. Show enthusiasm when leaving the old behind and experiencing the linkage of "the above and below" in your life.

Because the leading edge is Earth, approach experience with maturity and a sense of responsibility while claiming your expertise. Because the closing planet is in Fire, it implies that after all is said and done, you’ll find a new steadiness of expression and perhaps even a lot more play or fun! Open to experience using Capricorn spiritual power, and come out of experience with Leo heart strength allowing you to link “the above and the below” in your life.

As the Locomotive keeps things out of balance, the Moon in Cap is now the front end to finding the way of initiating activity that must be accompanied by a compensatory “weight” to keep things moving forward rather than sideways. The imbalances involve the unoccupied third, so what is needed is Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius energies to complete the empty span.

Adjust, be of service, look at the details of the plan, see the ideal, be just and balanced, and make sure the approaches are well-rounded. Eliminate all that is obsolete while seeing a greater vision, the easier it will be to navigate the imbalances in this pattern and come to a different way of finding the assistance we need to keep things fun. As we find a more heartfelt strength or courage at the end of the process through Mars, move into healthy Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius expression which will naturally lead to the Lunar entry into the next phase of experience.

Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?

This is the final Lunation with planets activating The Grand Irrationality which has be in play for 30 years. I created an article which sums up the three versions of the Grand Irrationality in play these past decades. I discuss what it is and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality is Over (1993-2023).

Any transit making multiple 7th harmonic aspects put this “7-pointed Star of Destiny” evolutionary configuration into play, bringing choices and changes affecting our future. The generic configuration is why things seem so crazy and hard-edged at this time in history, and why humanity seems to have been at an unending “fork in the road of destiny.” In this chart Uranus is rapidly separating from its last septile to Neptune, with the Sun engaging both by making a septile to Uranus and a biseptile to Neptune, thus setting major choices and changes into motion the next two weeks.

This evolutionary configuration has been activated over the years when any planet moved through any of the hot zones of the configuration. However, even though it’s about to end remember that almost everyone on Earth born in the past 30 years has this in their charts! And all the eclipses these past years have also had it, including the April and May eclipses. So we’ll still have it working in the background for years to come. I’ll speak more about the aspects in part 3 when I cover the special configurations.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

We now have begun the long voyage of Saturn’s transit of Pisces. While in Aquarius 2021-2022 it taught us shortcuts to illumination and instructed us in the wise use of spiritual energies for many months, as well as the spiritual power of gratitude and appreciation. This is a hello to the lessons of compassion and forgiveness shown by Pisces.

Saturn, ruler of our Capricorn and Aquarius sectors and any natal or progressed planets we have in those signs, is now retrograde, beginning a period where we all need to learn to hear the call to renewal. In the coming 2 weeks we’ll be able to see clearly the “light of high realization” as we stand for what we believe in. Though Saturn can feel heavy and bring serious life lessons, it is that within us which can take charge of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.

We’re now in a productive period of Jupiter making favorable aspects to Saturn over the next few months. The friction between Saturn and Uranus in 2021-2022 showed us what mattered to us and what didn’t, with our transformation into the roles we’re to play determined by how we’ve trained. Uranus awakened us to new roles to play, while Saturn brought new mutations and an accelerated evolution which are part of us learning to use spiritual power effectively through deliberation rather than instinct.

We’re all wiser than we used to be, have been given ample opportunities to value our heart connections with our friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness we share with our Brothers and Sisters.

2022 brought us training and skill, divine mutations, endings and beginnings. 2023 began with one last look back before the rapid acceleration that’s been happening the past 3 months. We’re now turning a corner the next two weeks, so embrace your new consecration!
