Why do we exist? Better yet, why does anything exist?

Have you ever thought about the question “why do we exist?”
If you are interested in this question like me, I’d like to share my perspective with you.
Take my perspective for what it is, which is simply the answer I have received on my path. This perspective may be relevant to you, or not, but to me this is how I have made sense of this question in my mind.
Why we exist
Why do we exist? We exist because we have to exist. You exist because you MUST exist and I exist because I MUST exist.
Why MUST we exist? Because everything that ever could exist must exist. That’s why. You are something that could exist. Therefore, you must exist.
Let me explain my logic
Back when I was a small child of about 6 or 7 years old, I remember playing on the playground of my parent’s apartment complex one day in the snow. It was a bright and shiny day, and I was having fun with my friends.
One of the kids came up to me and asked “do you believe in God?”
I’d never really thought about the question before, so I sat there puzzled for a moment. Wanting to give my friend an answer, but not knowing what to say I cocked my head to the side, squinted my eyes up at the sun, looked back at my friend and said “I don’t know.”
I went inside after playing and kept thinking about the question.
“Well, something must have created all of this stuff!” I thought.
Then, right behind that thought I wondered “but then who created God? And then what created the thing that created God?”
It was very confusing to try to get to the root of this God question, especially at that age. What came “first?” How does something pop up out of nothing? How does anything become created from nothingness?
The answer to the question was a better question
Fast forward almost 30 years later and I am still pondering the same damn question, as many of us are I think. However, at this point, the universe has delivered to me some insights that have helped me make better sense of this eternal paradox.
See, I used to ask: “How could ‘God’ (or Spirit, or the Universe, or whatever you like to call it) pop up out of nothing? How could existence be formed from nonexistence?”
At this point, though, I’ve realized there is a better question to ask altogether. The better question is “how could existence NOT exist if there is nonexistence?”
Think about it
In order for there to be nothing, there must be something. In order for there to be nonexistence, there must be existence. You simply can’t have one without the other. Existence either is, or it isn’t.
There just couldn’t be nothingness, if there wasn’t also somethingness to compare nothingness against. Nothing relies on there being something, just as something relies on there being nothing.
It’s like binary code for us spiritual seekers. It’s either a 0 (nonexistent) or it’s a 1 (existent).
You and I are the 1. The one is existence.
And it’s a funny thing about the number 1. If the number 1 exists, then any other possible number MUST exist.
You can take the number 1 (“All That Is,” so to speak) and divided it down into infinitesimally smaller parts. Mathematically speaking, the number 1 (existence) can be divided into smaller, and smaller, and smaller numbers but never reach 0 (non-existence).
You can also take the number 1 or any of its parts and multiply it out into infinitely bigger numbers. There is no largest number. It can always get bigger.
The way I see it, because of the simple fact that we know we exist, it stands to reason that the universe of existence must be infinite in size.
In order for there to even BE existence, it must have infinite potential to get bigger or smaller. It must be infinite in size, dimension and capability. “All That Is” can be divided up, down and around, added, multiplied and otherwise manipulated into any variation possible.
Into you, into me, into anything or any possibility. Into any parallel reality or any form, no matter how logical or how far-fetched.
So, if the universe is truly infinite, then you and I MUST exist, because how could an infinite universe NOT contain something that was mathematically possible?
Down the never-ending rabbit hole we go…
I know this post went a bit deep today, but it’s just something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately so I figured I’d share.
As I see it, reality is because it must be. You can’t have nothing without having something. Nothing and something are opposing ends of the same coin toss. Further, the sheer existence of something means that everything (literally everything) that is possible must exist somewhere in the matrix of time, space and dimension.
It’s just a big infinite maze of possibility, and it never started and it never ends. And if my logic is sound, I’d go so far to say it means that YOU never end either. You must exist infinitely, in infinite variations, over infinite time, space and dimension.
You just happen to be existing right here, right now, in one infinitesimally small fraction of the oneness that encompasses all of the “is-ness” of existence.
As for me, I don’t really worry about the “meaning of life” any more, or death for that matter either. The way I see it, I am because I must be, and I am infinitely here and omnipresent so I might as well make the most of what I can right now where I am.
There’s nothing to worry about, nothing to fix, nothing to force into place. Just an ability for me to experience more of what I am, and an eternity in which to do it.
