Saturn is making its first pass into its 2023 Shadow Zone of 1-8 Pisces, where it will go retrograde in June.

This begins the first of Saturn’s three transits over this part of Pisces. Because 8 Pisces was where Neptune went SRX in June 2014 and SD in November 2015, it seems we’re going to see how our response to the Neptune part of our spiritual hologram these past 9 years has created our Saturn conditions for the rest of 2023!

The shadow zone is defined by the span between where a planet goes retrograde, and where it goes direct after the retrograde period. In this case, Saturn goes retrograde at 8 Pisces on June 17. It will retrograde back to 1 Pisces, where it goes stationary direct on November 4.

That puts the shadow zone between 1 and 8 Pisces, and today Saturn enters 1 Pisces, the degree where it’ll go SD in November. This year Saturn takes us through the actional-physical level to the synthesizing degree of the social-emotional level of the scene of “Federation.” The great thing about this Saturn transit is that it makes excellent aspects with Uranus the entire time, and even the initial semisquare from Jupiter serves the productive expansion and blessings coming this Summer with a long term favorable relationship between Jupiter and Saturn for the rest of the year!

This begins a long term productivity related to the hard decisions and choices made during the years Saturn was square Uranus, occasionally amped up by Jupiter. During the rest of this year, Saturn makes only favorable aspects to Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter, which is a very great thing!

During this run of Saturn from 1 to 8 Pisces, the inner planets make a variety of aspects. Mars is in a harmonious angular relationship to Saturn all of March, culminating in a trine. The first friction comes from Mars sesquisquare Saturn in early May, followed quickly by the biquintile, then the quincunx at the last day of May, the triseptile in early June and the quadranovile when Saturn goes SRX.

Mars opposes Saturn in late July, and then begins the waning aspects with the quadranovile in mid-August and the triseptile in late August. Mars makes a quincunx and biquintile in early September, and a sesquisquare in mid-September. The trine from 1 Scorpio happens in mid-October, the tredecile in late October, and the biseptile in early November, when Saturn goes SD and begins its third transit of the shadow zone.

We see Mars squaring Saturn from 1 Sagittarius in late November, followed by the binovile and quintile in mid-December and sextile in the first third of January. The septile happens in late January, and then the semisquare and novile in early February, after which Saturn leaves its shadow zone.

Saturn direct helps us express mature responses to our world; Saturn retrograde gives us a different understanding, or a different angle of approach. Saturn RX can bring us echoes of old duties and responsibilities in new forms, or the return of attitudes of accepting “the wage of age.” Because it’s in the sector of the zodiac where we experience the deep connectedness we all are together within the collective “feeling-field,” the rest of this year will help us go deeper into our group activity begun in Aquarius. In the Spring and Summer, we’ll be feeling very strong emotions as we are called to renewal or rebirth in some way.

The Saturnine understanding you receive over the next 3+ months will be clarified after the Sun opposes Saturn and then Saturn’s SRX degree in late August just before Jupiter goes SRX exactly quintile Saturn. All the Taurus sextiles and quintiles this year challenge us to open to “productive uniqueness” with an eye that the old answers are inadequate to substantiate, confirm, or even explain what we need to do in new ways. Do not look to the old this year. Embrace the new ideas, responses, and methods opening up, slowly and surely, with the Taurus transits favorable to Saturn.

When Saturn goes SRX in June at 8 Pisces, it brings us a time of “hearing the call,” allowing a renewal of purpose, of connectedness, and action, preparing a review of our dedications and how we act within a larger whole. Having gotten our short cut to higher realizations, the emergence of “cosmic mutations,” and challenges to learn how “to pick up and deliver spiritual power” in 2021/2022, we now move into the vast depths of Pisces, with nothing but favorable aspects in the coming weeks. Even the few times when the aspects are difficult there are mitigating factors blunting the negative potential.
