3 Mompreneur Mindset Tips That Support Your Success
- Details
- Written by AndEl
As a mompreneur, having a mindset that is geared for success is extremely helpful if you are hoping to make serious money. Many mompreneurs fall into the trap of treating their business as a hobby. Let’s face it. A hobby mindset will only earn hobby income…which in the case of a crafty business means earning barely enough to cover the cost of accessories for the most part.
Many new mompreneurs report to one of the following emotions:
- Guilt if they harbor ambitious dreams
- Regret for the care-free life they had behind.
- Shame if they fail to make busincess a success.
Is this true for you too?
Are you also having beliefs such as:
- I am not good enough to run a business;
- I am just not good with anything technical such as putting up a website;
- I can’t do sales and since having a business will involve sales, I can’t do a business;
- I suck at promoting myself;
- I am too slow to be learning anything like business and marketing etc.
Well, if you are carrying a mixed bag of emotions and beliefs while trying to create the balance between babies and running a business, things – and most likely it will be your business since you can’t give up on your children – have a great chance of falling apart. By the way, 95% of mompreneur businesses fail within the first 2 years of inception. Clearly having a mompreneur success mindet will be helpful to ensure that failure is not an option.
With a young family, there can be many matters to attend to. As a mother, you have to wear many hats: caregiver, driver, teacher, mentor, chef, etc. From the day your baby is born, there will be a ton of things that demand your attention such as when your kids fall ill, helping them through exams, sending them for extra classes, making sure that your fridge is stocked up for the family etc.
Then, for the mompreneur, there is the extra challenge of running a business. Whether you are running an etsy shop or a healer providing reiki sessions, you have to wear multiple hats for your start up. In the beginning, to keep costs down, you are likely to be the one doing everything related to your business, rather than hiring or outsourcing for help.
I thought I was busy enough as a mom, but running a business on top of a household and from home just got crazily busy. At one stage, I had to limit taking client appointments, even though I enjoyed what I was doing and would have loved to serve a lot more people. Back then, I didn’t know how to strike a better balance back and was often stressed out.
Creating Balance in the Midst of Busyness
Fortunately, despite all that chaos, I still had my heart set on having my business. Along the way, I discovered that it was not just any busines that I wanted to run. In fact, it would be one that is also aligned to my purpose of making a difference. As a mompreneur, I might have started my business part-time but I was determined to embrace a full-time mindset. And it has helped me stay focused in my journey.
My question is: what do you want?
It all comes down to making a decision.
Your decision.
You have got to first decide on what you want.
It is, after all, your journey.
Not your girlfriends or your parents.
If you decide to proceed with saying a “yes” to business, you make it a priority to transform into a mompreneur mindset. One that will support you and keep you going.
Here is more about what has worked for me…
3 Mompreneur Mindset Tips
1. Commit to the Mission.
There will be days when your kids are throwing tantrums, tasks are not on schedule and the whole house being turned topsy turvy with all the mess. You are feeling stressed because you have also realised that if things are not sorted out at home, you will not have the peace of mind to do your work. At this point, it is tempting to give up on the idea of starting and running your business.
I know. I had been very close to making a drastic decision in the past. I’m so glad that I did not.
A mompreneur mindset involves being clear about your why. You are aware about why you are choosing this journey, instead of going back to your previous corporate life. You keep pressing on, with a huge dose of self-compassion and care. You commit to your mission. You may not have adequate sleep but you wake up with a huge dose of inspired mojo for your business. You are committed because you know why you are hoping to create an impace from the business that you love.
2. Make the Best Out of Your Mompreneur Journey.
At first, I was getting envious of entrepreneurs who are single and have enough time to devote to her or his business. I would make comparisions in terms of progress. For instance, I felt sorry for myself when I could not travel for work while some of my fellow coaches could for their businesses. I had to say “no” to public speaking gigs or offers that would give me exposure to a wider audience.
Eventually, I decided to stop looking at what some of the other entrepreneurs are doing. Everyone’s journey is different. Instead, I will just have to make the best out of mine.
So here’s my suggestion. Accept that the journey of a mompreneur is going to be different from someone who is single and creating her own business. You are less likely to have the luxury of time and space…and may even have less funds set aside for your business….now that you have a family unit to think about.
A mompreneur mindset calls for eliminating envy. Hence, refrain from feeling envious about that gorgoues single female entrepreneur, who is being interviewed in top women magazines and earning her 6-figure product launch day. Or spying on Facebook Live videos of her with perfect hair, make up and manicure. Not when you are mostly in your milk stained T-shirt or auntie wear.
Find a way to make running a business from home work for you. Adjust your schedule. Work-on-the-go. Prioritize. Say “no” to activities that are not helpful for your business. Network with other mompreneurs.
3. Throw mini celebrations instead of pity parties.
Feeling sorry for yourself about how busy life can get is not going to help you get your business off the ground. You have got more important things to be concerned about. Stop all the pity parties and get to work!
Instead, throw little celebratory parties. It’s a win every step of the way. Your first product. Your first sale. Your first marketing funnel. You celebrate every milestone like you would with a baby.

Birthing a business alongside a baby can be quite a journey. But it will be completely worth it! It’s never dull, you are in constant creative mode as an mompreneur.
Here’s what I have discovered: It’s all very possible without going to pieces or giving up on your start-up……when you have the right resources.
And…the best resource that you can ever cultivate is – yourself. In other words, your mompreneur mindset!
