The Courage To Reach Out

As you may — or may not — know, I founded a consulting company last year. I now work as a life purpose consultant, helping people discover their true life's purpose and work, and get it out into the world.
I love what I do.
I begin each day excited, anticipating the wonders that will happen in each client session.
A recurring theme of late within my client sessions has been that of grief, loss, and betrayal.
Due to the pandemic, as well as the political situation of the world, many people suddenly found themselves estranged from family members they'd had all of their lives. Or friends they'd had since for forever.
This is massive trauma.
Due to political or pandemic differences of opinion, overnight, these people that made up their community, their foundation, their security, their network, their homebase, their sense of orientation, were gone.
They were left staring into a gaping black hole, not knowing which way was up or down, left or right.
Totally destabilizing.
I've had my own experiences of this. I know how it feels.
When one is suddenly cut off, and there is no chance for reconciliation, how do you deal with the usual things when they occur? Like birthdays, the holiday season, when you hear someone you are no longer in contact with has lost a loved one?
I say — continue to reach out.
My response may surprise you. "Wait, Belinda. This person totally cut me off for no real reason. They hated on me. They wronged me. They gave me no opportunity to explain and try to reconcile."
I understand. Completely.
But I keep coming back to the quote from the great Maya Angelou: "When people show you who they are, believe them."
You want to be the type of person who demonstrates your goodness. Your good heart and loving spirit.
For me, even if someone has cut me off with a ridiculous, or no explanation, if it feels right for my energy field to reach out and say, "Happy Birthday," or "Merry Christmas," or "I'm thinking of you," I'II do it.
Not in every case. And not every time. I let my energy field guide me as to when, and with which person.
I don't expect a response from people. That's not the point.
The point is I am valuing my energy field and my goodness of heart, despite how this person may feel about me.
I'm doing it to share love.
I'm doing it to take the higher path.
I'm doing it to elevate myself, and the world.
But it can't feel contrived. If it feels contrived it isn't right for you or your energy field.
But don't feel shy to reach out, if you feel the urge. Be bold. Be brave. You are doing the world a great service with your acts of love.
