Baby Clothes: 8 Essential Types

Baby Clothes: 8 Essential Types

No matter if you’re expecting an addition to your family or are thinking about buying some baby clothes for your friends that recently welcomed their little one, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself a little bit with various types of baby clothes. To help you out, we made a handy guide that will take you through the most essential types of garments that a baby needs.

Bodysuits

An essential item that every baby needs plenty of is a bodysuit. As it will be a staple in a little one’s wardrobe for a few months, stocking up and getting at least eight onesies will be crucial for new parents to get through this period smoothly. Even more of them is highly recommended even though babies will quickly grow out of them simply because there will not always be enough time to handle laundry and clean clothes are more than welcome. Onesies come in various forms; for instance, with long and short sleeves, with feet and without feet, and with various cute designs.

Tops and bottoms

Besides one-piece bodysuits, babies also need plenty of tops and bottoms that can easily be combined. Moreover, these items can also be layered on top of onesies when it’s a bit colder. For example, sometimes there will be no need for bulky outerwear if you live in warmer places like Australia as the baby will feel pleasant with only a few layered items. When purchasing these pieces, look for those that are comfortable and easy to put on. They should also be made of cotton so that they don’t irritate the baby’s skin as well as be labelled as a low fire hazard. Most important of all, babies should be able to move freely in them.

Sleepwear

Seeing as how newborns can sleep up to 19 hours a day, sleepwear shouldn’t be overlooked either. When choosing the right clothing pieces, there are several things to take into consideration. For one, they should be put on and taken off easily so look for those with zippers that are out of the baby’s reach. Furthermore, they should also cover the feet to keep the little one warm. Just like with other items, sleepwear should also be flame-resistant.

Outerwear

The outerwear you might need to buy will depend on where you live. For instance, if you’re located in a colder climate, you will need to properly bundle up the baby so look into thick coats and jackets that will definitely keep them warm. On the other hand, a simple cardigan might be enough for warmer climates, so researching baby clothes in Australia is a better idea. Regardless of the type of outerwear, there are some cute and warm options both in brick-and-mortar shops and online and the little one in your life is sure to look adorable.

Shoes and socks

While the baby will not be walking on their own any time soon, providing them with an appropriate number of shoes is of the essence. As their feet will grow, you will have to get at least a few new pairs after a few months. However, it will keep their little feet warm so it shouldn’t be a problem. What is more, socks are also important so get plenty of warm, thick, and soft pairs to ensure the little one’s body temperature stays normal.

Accessories

Babies will also need plenty of accessories, so don’t overlook something crucial. For example, when going outside in warm weather, a little bucket hat will not only look cute but also be useful for sun protection. On the other hand, for colder months in certain areas, a warm cap and mittens are a must to protect the baby from harsh weather. These are not always necessary so pay attention to whether the baby starts acting up once you put these accessories on them and remove them if you notice they are a nuisance.

Swaddles

For the first couple of months of the baby’s life, swaddles and blankets will play a big role in putting them to sleep. By using these items, a newborn can easily be wrapped and secured throughout the night. Moreover, they can also be used during the day, simply to keep the baby warm. However, you need to learn how to swaddle a baby properly. They come in a range of colours and patterns, and you should not neglect them to make your or your friend’s life easier.

Burp cloths and bibs

Finally, you want to equip yourself with many burp cloths and bibs. Newborns often drool and spit-up, so these items are crucial for protecting your and their clothes. As these get dirty rather quickly and you might not always have time to do laundry, getting as many as possible is always a great choice.

As you learn more about what babies require, you will also learn more about various types of clothes. Some of these you might use more than others, but these are the essentials that everyone with a baby should have.
