The Sun Hero

The Sun Hero

Throughout history we can observe the representation of what is often called the ‘sun hero.’

The sun hero, in any age, is the individual who bears the initiating forces of the sun within his being. He is often portrayed in myths and imagery as being crucified, either on a cross, X, or even a pole or tree. It is common to see these images surrounded not only by clear solar imagery, but also by the symbols of the zodiac.

The sun hero is the individual that bears the essence of Christ, the macrocosmic being we all operate within, that is represented in spiritual traditions as the sun. The crucifixion, martyrdom and rebirth of the sun hero represents the binding of the human Spirit into matter and then the subsequent liberating of it. The sun hero being bound to matter is evident in the reincarnation of the soul repeatedly into the material world until it can, like Christ, be resurrected back into the spiritual world from whence it originated. However, not all sun heroes are portrayed this way. Some may relay other themes of the Christ Impulse.

Repetitive Rituals and Imagery

Common sun heroes are the Greek god Apollo, Mithra etc. Even Archangel Michael, who is the representative of the Christ, is a sun hero, his presence is perhaps the most commonly referenced in sun hero imagery. It is important to note here that this procession of sun heroes through the epochs is revealing the evolution of the solar consciousness, or the development of the Christ Impulse, on the earth over time. What does that mean? It means that the Christ impulse, as the being that fructifies the earth and humanity, is drawn closer and closer to the earth over time. Each time the Christ is drawn closer certain events occur on the earth and specific tasks, or rituals, must be performed.

Beginning in the earliest epoch of the earth, the Christ is sensed outside the human being, it has not yet been drawn downward and inward. As time passes the Christ slowly draws nearer and nearer to the human heart and the center of the earth. It is important to note that the sun heroes are not identical as they represent different stages of the integration of the Christ within humanity over time. There are similarities, but each will have a distinctly unique expression that pertains to the particular mysteries of that epoch.

Thus, we can observe that with each passing era, that a sun hero emerges and takes on the unique task of embodying and evolving the Christ Impulse in the world for their time. Each sun hero prepares the earth and humanity for the next initiatory period. Each sun hero embodies the Christ, in the way that is appropriate for human consciousness at the time, and thus raises and prepares the earth for the next individual in the Christic Line. These individuals are often referred to as the Great Initiates, Buddhas, Spiritual Masters or Saints.

As mentioned, Sun Hero’s generally perform the same kind of rite with similar themes such as, martyrdom, resurrection, the spilling of blood etc. As with any ritual, the same elements are used repeatedly no matter the age. This is because the originating archetypal impulse is the same simply evolving over time. This repetitive imagery and ritual practice also allows humanity to trace the various sun heroes, and therefore the development of the Christ Impulse, in the world over time. The repetitive imagery also allows humanity to subconsciously understand their initiation process over many lives until they can achieve a conscious recognition of the Christ. Thus repetitive imagery is key in spiritual initiation and forms the basis of spiritual study.

Jesus Bears The Christ

When the earth reaches its approximate midpoint in development, the Christ Being finally incarnates into a human. The person that received the Christ on behalf of humanity was Jesus of Nazareth. The reception of the Christ into Jesus of Nazareth is the peak descent of the Christ Being into the Earth and humanity. And, from that point forward the earth and humanity begin what is commonly called the ‘ascension’ arch of development, or the ‘spiritualization' arch. From this point forward the Christ is no longer outside of Man, but inside. This is key.

Now that the macrocosmic solar being (Christ) is inside the human being, humanity can utilize it to glorify themselves, or spiritualize themselves out of matter. They can become immortal and achieve eternal life. The process of spiritualizing, or the transubstantiation of the material form into a spiritual one, is called Resurrection in the Christian Mysteries, but is recognized in the Eastern Mysteries as the establishing of the Diamond body, or the body of immortality.

The Christian concept of the body of eternal life is the same general concept of the immortal body of the Eastern Mysteries. The difference is that Christianity includes the incarnation of Christ in Jesus, while the Eastern teachings reached their peak before the Christ incarnated within man. While the Eastern and Western traditions have a different emphasis they hold the same spiritual science at their core and therefore should not be seen as competitors, or at odds with one another.

Michael Mysteries

Today, the Christ impulse continues under the guidance of the Solar Angel and the Etheric Christ this time revealing the deeper mysteries of immortality and resurrection to humanity. Our job is to attune to the Christ and transform ourselves in His image which establishes our immortal body. The details and task of the Christ after the crucifixion are called the Michael Mysteries in the Anthroposophical system.

It is my job to help provide clarity on where you are right now and where you have been and then bring the focus on how to align yourself into your highest potential..”
