Does A Natal Opposition Between the Sun and Moon Show Divorce?
Recently at a FB astrology page someone asked the question “I have often heard that full moon babies have parents that get divorced or are just not experienced together by the child as the solar & lunar figures are in opposition,” and they were looking for opinions.
While Full Moons certain put the two planets indicating parental influence at odds with each other, remember an opposition isn’t necessary indicative of people parting. On the other hand, in the “real world,” something like 55% of marriages end in divorce. So clearly there must be several variables related to divorce since most of the children of divorce were not born at a Full Moon.
Marc Edmund Jones thought an affliction of the Lights meant the native framed things as "either-or" with confusion about wants and needs. I see it as "authenticity is at odds with expression." There is tension between the Light we are and the form we’re trying to give it.
I remember reading long ago that the Sun/Moon angle represents the relationship of our parents when we were conceived, but that after we are born, while these two are still important parental indicators in our childhood, we also have other planets and houses which are far more important in showing us where we’re at.
It is true that an affliction of the Lights means the parents were "at odds" during conception, but after birth the main significators of the parents are the rulers and occupants of the 4th and 10th houses. While the ancients believed the 10th was the parent of the same gender while the 4th was the parent of the opposite gender of the native, I’ve found that either house could represent either parent, and in some cases, one parent will dominate both houses if that’s the nature of the relationship.
The aspect of the Moon to the Sun shows where our parents were at when we were conceived. The ruler of our 4th in aspect to the ruler of our 10th shows their relationship when we were born. And while the Sun and Moon still represent powerful parental influences through our first Saturn opposed Saturn around 14, after that we increasingly become our Sun and Moon in our own way.
So the short answer is no, being born with a Full Moon doesn't necessarily indicate our parents will divorce. While parental tension of course can be seen in our charts, it's far better to work with their charts rather than infer something from ours.
