Show Us How We Begin, Fulfill, and End All Experience.
The sequence of the elements is the pattern in how we move through experience from the personal to the interpersonal to the transpersonal. It shows us the pathway across the 12 frequency zones of human existence.
In the sequence of the signs, we know we have a fire sign followed by an earth sign, which is followed by an air sign, followed by a water sign, after which the sequence begins anew. So, we begin experience with the fire of inspiration, and follow that with the materiality of earth. This naturally leads to the interactions and ideas of air, which then is felt deeply in water. So, we begin in fire. We ground it in Earth. We explore it in air. We feel it and let it flow in water.
Aries through Cancer is purely personal
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer are the personal signs. Aries is the fiery burst of personal energy, the urge to be, to “flame on.” It is the point where the seed sprouts to life and we move of our own initiative into whatever warms us and inspires us to BE.
In Taurus, we come to know the need to stabilize that personal burst of new initiative. We instinctively search to find the resources, material and nonmaterial, which allows us to sustain who we ARE.
In Gemini we begin to look around, still from a personal angle, learning what we need to learn. Because of Gemini’s natural duality as a mutable sign, we wonder at all there is to learn and how we will learn all we need to. It’s still a subjective, I oriented reality.
In Cancer, we begin to interact and feel as a result of our sense of personal connection to others. We know we need to anchor the initial inspired expression we’ve grounded and explored, and now try to find personal relevance related to our needs and security.
Leo through Scorpio is purely interpersonal
Up to this point, the sector of our charts with Aries through Cancer have given us a personal way of interacting with our world without the world interfering with that interaction. In the span from Leo to Scorpio, we again experience the fire, earth, air, and water sequence, but within an interpersonal field of expression because of these signs’ natural interactivity.
Leo is the fiery burst of interpersonal energy, the urge to be in an interactive, expressive way. We take all that is personal and “put on the show” in Leo’s new interpersonal burst of expression and heart.
As a result of this new inspired expression, we again have to find ways to ground it in the material earth of Virgo. Virgo is where we refine what is expressed as a result of wanting it to “be perfect.” Wherever we have Virgo is where we seek perfect material self-expression in our world.
We then find ourselves again in an air sign phase, this time Libra. This is the sign where we learn to express our sense of the ideal in a newborn world of public expression. We weigh, judge, seek the balance and perspective which can give a well-rounded view of what so far has been a totally subjective experience of personal and interpersonal expression.
Having glimpsed the ideal in Libra, we then enter the deep connections of Scorpio, where all forms pass away. The ideal needs to attract something to fulfill itself, which requires leaving things behind. So again, we feel deeply at the end of the interpersonal span of the signs.
Sagittarius through Pisces is purely transpersonal.
This final third of the span of total experience involves transpersonal orientations as prelude to new personal Self-realization following the end of the cycle and the renewal of the seed potential at the next Aries point.
In Sagittarius, after shedding what skins we need to shed in the Scorpio phase and bursting out of whatever holding pattern we were in, we find a vast vision of possibilities, of truths, of greater lives to embrace and adventures to entertain. This is the third expression of fire, which shows our freedom to grow and expand into a wider realm of inspired activity where we can bring the personal and interpersonal together to fulfill some aspect of our spiritual purpose.
As with the other fire signs, Sagittarius is followed by the earth of Capricorn, where we craft the vision and sense of adventure into a form of personal practical expression and authority. This is personal grounded inspired power which naturally leads us to the next air phase in Aquarius.
Aquarius is where we see the broader context of our responsibility and dedications from the detached perspective of air, as well as a sense of having grounded our transpersonal inspiration in a practice form relevant to who we are. We see the transpersonal ideas and ideals which unite us all in a larger group purpose to achieve forward movement collectively.
Then comes the final phase in Pisces, where we see how we are the extension of a collective awareness across time. This final deepening and connection within all at the end of the cycle allow us to realize we are one within the vast ocean of humanity where all sorrows and triumphs, all uncertainties and faiths, all tragedy and triumphs, reside in the collective memory of us all.
Final thoughts on each element
Aries is how we are moved of our own initiative. Leo is how we are moved to expression by who we’re interacting with. Sagittarius is how we are moved to spread the word of that which inspires us.
Taurus is how we acquire what we personally need to substantiate our self-awareness. Virgo is how we refine the material expression of all forms, preparing to show it as an ideal. Capricorn is how we take responsibility for our part within the collective material expression.
Gemini is how we explore the idea of who we are in our own closed environment. Libra is how we explore the idea of who we are in the interactive world. Aquarius is how we explore the idea of the greatest good for the greatest number in a transpersonal vision.
Cancer is how we personally feel all there is to feel. Scorpio is the inevitability of the loss of magnetism keeping anyone or anything beyond its time in our life. Pisces is the connection to tidal flow and the blessings we send others to forgive and immerse the entire experience in compassion.
By knowing the qualities of each of these dimensions of human existence and seeing how they are arranged in our charts, we can know our orientation to anything, anyone, everything, and everyone. Have fun exploring the possibilities!
