Sabian Symbol, Jones Pattern, Evolutionary Configurations, and More.

This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this New Moon Solar eclipse at 11 Libra on October 2. This brings the Light of a communication with the removal of old superficialities in our interactions. This is a very benevolent eclipse.

We're now solidly in the new era which began at the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction at 22 Taurus in late April. That conjunction, in effect for 13 or more years, promised we have seen or will see the “white dove flying over troubled waters.” That symbolized a sign from Spirit that having endured our “ordeal,” we could now move into a new life. That is now an active element in our lives and will become more prominent in September.

We are now at the “far end” of the year cycle, with the inner planets all pulling away from Mars and Jupiter, the planets which close the outer planet occupied span. The inner planets have all finished their oppositions to Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune for the year. This is the end of the Pluto in Capricorn era, and the last eclipse to have that position for over 200 years to come. This eclipse offers highly specialized gifts and blessings, and will be a relatively easy eclipse since it's balanced, reasonable, and visionary in its expression. There will be unique interactivity, so reach others to others and be receptive to specialized, even “quintessential” situations where your gifts can come forth.

There's almost no friction in this eclipse other than the eclipse square Mars and sesquisquare Uranus. Still, with the favorable aspects to the eclipse and to Mars, which is strengthened through being in a Grand Water Trine, the Libra will help us steer the flow as needed. This combo of aspects helps us all feel our way in and out of stuck positions, with no need for extremes. Just see the new life order presenting itself and be willing to do your own thing in your own way.

Be balanced in your approach to the larger renewal going on. Be clear about what you want in the future. This is a time to go deeper into your dedication, or come up for air if you've been “underground” for too long. Venus encourages us to meet and greet others at the highest level of “ambassadorial” behavior, rather than with a casual attitude.

The span between 11-15 Libra is about “transfiguration” on the individual and spiritual level which prepares us for the karmic “repair and reconstruction work” in the last half of Libra. The next month (and 6 years!) is a time to get clear about finding new ways to transfer information and being happy as you serve some educational need. Many will find the communication they've been waiting for from “genuinely superior agencies” and “more evolved Beings.”

The Planetary Spread

In this chart, because the inner planets are between mid-Libra and mid-Scorpio in a 31+ degree span, that's the main focus for the next 4 weeks (and 6 years). At this point, with the Grand Water Trine and all the planets spread out in various signs, it creates a Splay Jones pattern. At this time we have planets in Capricorn, Pisces, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Libra, and Scorpio.

Depending on the position of the Moon and the inner planets relative to the outer planets, different months bring us different Jones Patterns. These patterns operate their own independent influence, regardless of which planet is in which sign.

Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, and proceeds through Saturn in mid-Pisces, Neptune in late Pisces, Uranus in late Taurus and ends with Jupiter in late Gemini. (We don't include TransPluto, since Jones didn't use it in defining his patterns). Because we have 7 signs represented in about half the chart with 3 outside the main occupied span and a Grand Water Trine creating a tripod stabilizing the entire spread, this is a “Splay” Jones Pattern.

So What is a “Splay” Jones Pattern and how does it work?

Due to the way the planets are irregularly spread out among the signs, this type of spread which features all the planets in odd angles to each other with differing distributions among the signs, creates a “Splay” Jones Pattern. As Marc Jones put it, “the arrangement is neither even nor symmetrical,” revealing “strong and sharp aggregations of the planets at irregular points.”

Dr. Jones states “This suggests highly individual or purposeful emphases in the life, where the temperament juts out into experiences according to its own very special tastes.” This pattern “makes its own anchorage in existence,” and has a quality of “rugged resistance to pigeonholing, either in the near conventional compartments of nature, or in the idea-pockets of associates.”

He goes on to state this pattern gives a “persistent emphasis on individuality,” and the “spokelike emphases of the planetary groupings” are random, but have a “tripod” footing and approach to life circumstances. He says this pattern “reveals a very intensive personality which cannot be limited to any single steady point of application.” This temperament is “particular and impersonal in its interests,” rather than “universal-impersonal” or “particular-personal.”

This implies that affairs will be variously spread out, some will not mesh well with others, and there will be a “hub and spoke" quality to what happens these next 4 weeks and for the duration of the eclipse effects. This spread shows a wide diversity of things going on that promotes individuality.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon

A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following month will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 11 Libra, and it is said that the second third (decan) of any sign deals with the emotional, social, and cultural levels of life, and being the second decan of Libra it has a sub-influence of Aquarius with an added dose of Saturn. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.

The Sabian symbol for the 11th degree of Libra is “A professor peering over his glasses.” In the original Jones class notes Dane Rudhyar published in The Astrology of Personality, he states this is a degree of “cooperation of genuinely superior agencies with beings less evolved,” “glad willingness to assist and protect,” and “kindliness.”

In The Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree symbolizes “problems attending the transmission of knowledge in a special cultural setup.” He goes on to state that this symbol is about how to get information across to others, where we must look beyond the knowledge and see others as human beings.

He offers that this symbol “deals at the intellectual level with the teaching of accumulated collective knowledge, and the problem posed by the acquisition of that knowledge,” and he makes a distinction this deals with issues of instruction, “not to be confused with ' education.'” He says it falls in the span of Expectation, and it's the initiating degree of the individual, mental, and spiritual level of the scene of Transfiguration in the Act of Group Integration.

Dr. Jones says this is a degree of “high ego on the personal side,” and the “naïve self-confidence by which an individual is enabled to continue the role of superiority (they) have elected to play.” He offers this is about a “refinement of self in whatever particular phase of excellence will promise recognition for itself, and also the acceptance of the form in which it is manifest.”

He states this degree is about “a subordination of all other considerations to the immediate dramatization of responsibility. He offers us the keyword SPECIALIZATION, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is a quiet mastery of events through a developed insight or depth of understanding.”

From this symbol, it seems the next few weeks will help us to assist and be assisted in sharing knowledge and wisdom. If there's a hang up in communications, try to get past the knowledge and see the human issues. We all get to “play a role of superiority” in some way, with specialization in the air and mastery through “developed insight or depth of understanding.

Important Aspects

Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electoral, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. Partile separating aspects show what's been going on in the Now. This section covers only forming and particle separating aspects.

The Lunation is conjunct Mercury, semisextile Venus, square Mars, tredecile Jupiter, triseptile Saturn, sesquisquare Uranus, and tredecile Pluto; Mercury is semisextile Venus, square Mars, tredecile Jupiter, triseptile Saturn, sesquisquare Neptune and tredecile Pluto; Venus is trine Mars, trine Saturn, and sesquisquare Neptune; and the Sun makes the same aspects as the Moon.

Outer planet aspects feature Mars quindecile Jupiter, trine Saturn, septile Uranus, and tredecile Neptune; Jupiter is trielftile Saturn, quindile Uranus, and biquintile Pluto; Saturn is quintile Uranus and semisquare Pluto; and Uranus is sextile Neptune and Neptune is sextile Pluto.

This month the friction is provided by 1 semisquare, 3 squares, and 4 sesquisquares. While squares challenge “right action” at a turning point of a cycle, the semisquares are more about internal decisions and movement with personal inner crises, both public and private, which we must deal with.

Sesquisquares on the other hand create friction, agitation, and irritation in our world that involves others. In my experience sesquisquares are not necessarily associated with times of crisis, but they do seem to be times of no rest and spurs to act that may be inconvenient and aggravating. They definitely aren't calm! And quincunxes force adjustments and sacrifices.

The long term pressure of Saturn semisquare Pluto is a time of serious internal decisions and movement related to the emergent structure of that which purifies everything. It's been in play during the recent global conflicts. Adapt, purify, imagine, adjust, and show good humor while not letting the aggravation factor of the semisquare get to you.

Special Configurations in Evolutionary Astrology

This month we continue to have the rare circumstance of only 2 special evolutionary configurations, one involving the Lunation.

1) The Lunation is tredecile Jupiter, tredecile Pluto, and Jupiter is biquintile Pluto. This activates three points of a “10 Pointed Star of Quintessential Serendipity” or “Serendipitous Specialization.” This configuration brings gifts which are perfect for our circumstances, or circumstances which are perfect for our gifts. The areas most affected include 1 Leo/Aquarius, 3-7 Virgo/Pisces, 9-13 Libra/Aries, 15-19 Taurus/Scorpio, 21-25 Sagittarius/Gemini, and 27-30 Cancer/Capricorn.

2) Venus in Scorpio is trine Mars in Cancer and Saturn in Pisces, with Mars trine Saturn. This is a Grand Water Trine, and positively impacts all planets and points we have in the middle degrees of the Earth and Water signs. This brings an element of flow to events, so with the eclipse in Libra and ruled by Venus, rhythm and flow are good points of focus to cooperate with the energies of this Lunation.

Explaining Harmonics

Aspects in the same series are considered to be various stages of “harmonics” for each series. In the 7th harmonic aspect series of “destiny,” this month we have 1 septile and 3 triseptiles. In the 5th, 10th, 15th and 24th harmonic specialization series, we have 2 quindeciles, 1 quintile, SEVEN tredeciles, and 1 biquintile. The 9th harmonic gives us no aspects in this eclipse, and in the 11th harmonic faith series there is only 1 triselfile.

The novile (9th harmonic), septile (7th harmonic) and elftile (11th harmonic) series all feature spiritual aspects. All novile series (9th harmonic) aspects indicate things which need to be put on the shelf for a while, or that which has been waiting can now move forward. They represent gestative energies that can lead to great spiritual realizations. Septile series aspects represent forks in the road of destiny, while the 11th harmonic elftile series indicate that faith is required to deal with transcending some dualities, issues and points of evolution where we must make a leap of faith to attain a form of mastery over that type of duality. This series tests our faith. Both the 7th and 11th series involve non-rational aspect values, bringing an element of irrationality in behavior and circumstances.

The quintile and biquintile (5th harmonic) and related 10th (decile and tredecile), 15th (quindecile), and 20th harmonic (vigintile) aspects are all specialization aspects. Element Libra and Who's Leading the Sun

This month shows a huge imbalance in the elements, with the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. We have 0 planets in Fire (inspiration and warmth), 2 planets in Earth (practical grounding), 4 in Air (relatedness and communicating), and 4 in Water (feelings and experiencing).

Air and Earth are “cool” elements, while Fire and Water are “hot” elements. With this distribution, it's fairly cool as Air and Earth predominate. With no Fire planets, find the warmth and inspiration within when they are needed.

The current sequence at present of Deciding, Feeling, and Thinking

We've been through several different sequences over the past few months. There are six patterns, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. This begins a new pattern. For now, as a process of moving through events, the most effective “firing sequence” for approaching life and experience over the next four weeks involves beginning activity with deciding, then thinking, then feeling.

This will help us all to get it in gear, make decisions, and act on those decisions. Once we do our decision or action, these will lead us to a new understanding or vision on the basis of the action. Once we get the understanding, communication, or vision, then we must learn to sit with the feelings and experience them, and get clear about what we're feeling and why.

So lead with deciding and acting, then move into a vision or understanding, and then name what you're feeling. That way nothing will get bottled up through underuse, and you can move through experiences with power and clarity.

What do you have to do? Find your vision or understanding you need to execute that decision. Are your actions leading you to the understanding you need? When you find your understanding, then take time to feel the process so you can use the flow to take you into the next decisions and actions.

Summing Up

This New Moon Solar eclipse will bring new ways of giving and receiving information and healing on many levels, with things removed to make space for better things on the way. Again, this is a benevolent eclipse, with regeneration, personality integration, and a sense of things lightening up even as they are refined at a higher level. Do not hesitate to act when you need to; just remember to feel the enjoyment of the ride!

We continue to be in a time of preparing for Mars to go retrograde. Make adjustments in October while embracing the high specialization, gifts, blessings, and healing this eclipse will make available. Keep interactions as light and bright as needed while letting go of stagnant or toxic people.

While Saturn's in Pisces, we are learning about the collective field and techniques of “non-local awareness” while developing our subtle senses of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience. Forgiveness allows Divine Grace to manifest, and the quicker things flow down the timestream the less of an obstruction they'll be.

Saturn in Pisces is teaching us how to demonstrate practical compassion as we live at a higher level than we used to. We are now living the life renewal we “heard as a call” last June, and are preparing for our symbolic “feast.”

We've finished a time of saying goodbye to old ways, places, and people, However, since all forms pass away in this impermanent world, this created space for new ways and new experiences since there's more potential than there is in whatever has left . Celebrate the uplifting energies at play in your chart, and let go of memories which don't serve the flow into the future. Feel the lightness of your unique evolutionary dance through space and time. We're all moving from the interpersonal to the transpersonal level of focus.

Neptune is showing the way to “let go let god” as we approach the threshold of Neptune in Aries. For now, practice sensing the flow and simultaneity of knowing and experiencing a vast connection to the collective field. This prepares us for receiving what we need to walk into the new collective reality of Neptune in Aries in 2025!

We have been exploring our new life, new land, new field and new focus which has unfolded since January. Be reasonable and diplomatic as you say yes to some things and not to others, as everything serves personality integration or reintegration. This helps us follow through, recalibrate, say goodbye with grace and elegance, and contribute to our own healing, others' healing, and the healing of humanity.

The Long View

In 2020 we entered a transition phase in human history. While we will be functioning within the Capricorn cycles we began then, we also have begun an era unknown to humanity since the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, we were still in the depth of the Age of Pisces, so the awakening of new ideas then were relative to the old era, whereas what's coming involves wave after wave of Aquarian energies, pushing us to the coming Great Age emerging in the second half of this century.

The long wave Aquarian pulses were initially set into motion by the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, marking the initiation of archetypal Aquarian preliminary structures offered by Saturn. The promise and potential of the new Aquarian pulse then began to expand into a greater social and cultural vision beginning at the Jupiter conjunction with Saturn, the Grand Mutation of the Solstice also at 1 Aquarius. So we have 20 years of Aquarian energies set into motion by that conjunction!

All Aquarian transits and conjunctions in 2022, 2023, and 2024 have given a new impetus and new expression to the Aquarian structures which took shape in 2021. Each transit strengthens the Pluto in Aquarius “generation” of the 21st century which lasts until 2043. As there will be a Jupiter conjunction with Pluto at 15 Aquarius in 2033, we'll see the “expansion of the Angels of the Age of Aquarius” at that time.

2021 opened a new adventure for all of us, and the long term “metamorphosis” we went through showed us what the beginning of the coming Age of Aquarius is about. 2022 helped us remember we are Beings of Light, a Superstar shining the Light of our Eternal Love into our world. We're now expanding our spiritual knowledge, understanding, and effective forms of service, and have entered a new phase with Mars in a new Sun/Mars conjunction cycle.

New groups of Spiritual communities have formed since 2021, and are being given a boost this year. Those which are Aquarian in nature will be “lifted on the wings of angels” in 2024. Trust the process. Revolution is in the air! And when you find things and people of eternal worth, value them with all your heart.
