The August 2023 Full Moon of 8 Virgo-Pisces Pt. 2

The August 2023 Full Moon of 8 Virgo-Pisces Pt. 2

Sabian Symbols Showing the Light of Cooperative Self-Perfecting Expressed As A Call to A New Life.

This coming August 30 Full Moon is the thirty-fourth Full Moon since the December 2020 Solstice conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn at 1 Aquarius which launched new 20 and 200 year eras. This Lunation helps us prepare for a new adventure as we are summoned to a new life and work. We’ve now finished our Venusian review of the work that has to be done at the dawning of a new day and in a Mercury review of our standards.

I’ll speak more about the bigger picture after the Sabian Symbols. For now, let’s take a closer look at this distributive, practical, “back to the future” Lunation which requires that we get ready for some training we’ll need in our future. This one brings satisfaction and illumination by what we have left behind as we confront “a world utterly transformed.”

We are still in a time when the old answers cannot confirm the new conditions of existence and the old approaches won’t get the job done. Pluto is giving us a look back at our ability to “read the tea leaves,” seeing omens of the future in objects and patterns as we bridge the Earth and Air in the spiritual field. This is a time to practice “practical compassion,” which requires a specific focus. What’s yours? What is your purpose for doing or not doing something? Use your creative imagination and you’ll be able to handle any situation you’re in.

Because the Full Moon fulfills the themes of the previous New Moon, in this case the recent New Moon at 24 Leo, we have been offered the inward way as a means to release our originality and use inspiring experiences to transform our everyday life. This Lunation should bring clarity to material things as we get insights or memories of past understandings. This is an important “fork in the road” lunation, with Venus septile Mars and both triseptile the Moon, showing the Moon is the nozzle for the release of these non-rational cooperative pioneering energies. Use the Light you’ve seen since the New Moon to begin training to acquire new skills in the future.

As this Full Moon has Sun in Virgo and Moon in Pisces, the Light of shaping our expression can be expressed through Pisces’ sense of compassion as it lets the past flow down the time stream. Because Virgo/Pisces is the axis of the archetype of the Healer, Shaman, and Priest(ess), we can forgive much, bless much, and be good guides, steering ourselves and others out of old ways into new lives.

The Sun in Earth and the Moon in Water shows a time of the mutable Earth (practical experience) of Virgo (precise and efficient refinement of methods) expressing its need for efficient service through the mutable Water (feelings and experiences) of Pisces. This continues a run of Full Moon themes of getting clear on the emotional and social levels of our existence.

At this time, 4 planets are in the first third of their sign, 3 planets are in the second third of their signs, and 3 planets are in the last third of their signs. This indicates an emphasis on the the actional-material levels of life with a balance between the social/emotional levels of life and the individual, mental, and spiritual levels. Of note is the Spiritual Triad occupying the end of their signs, approaching the completion of their many years in each.

Why Are Full Moons So Important?

At a Full Moon, that which has opened since the previous New Moon surfaces in a public form, and heads toward the culmination and fruition symbolized by the second half of any cycle. First half, birth into form and field. Second half, culmination and completion of the purpose of that cycle.

That’s why it’s important to regard the New and Full Moon charts as “God’s Footprints in Time,” since one follows the other in an unending sequence of births of newer and newer seeds. The New Moons show us the seeds that will flourish under the reflected light of the Full Moon.

Full Moons heighten feelings, due to the opposition of the Moon and the Sun. We are now in a time of the year when the inner planets are making oppositions to the outer planets from mid-July through mid-November. The 2 forming oppositions in this chart involve the Moon opposed the Sun, and the wider Moon opposed Mercury. Those oppositions are this chart’s “Tension of Opposites,” creating an “awareness generator” between very focused between 6-10 Virgo-Pisces, and more generally, 6 through 22 Virgo and Pisces, with the 14th degree the midpoint of the Moon/Mercury opposition.

Dispositors - What's the Backdrop to the Energies?

The Sun is in Virgo, making Mercury its ruler. The Moon is in Pisces, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is ruled by Venus in Leo, which in turn is ruled by the Sun which is ruled by Mercury. That makes Mercury in its home sigh the ruler of almost all the planets in this chart. Other than these, Mars is ruled by Venus, Saturn is ruled by Jupiter, Uranus is ruled by Venus, Pluto by Saturn, and as usual, Neptune is a “standalone” planet, ruling itself.

That makes Mercury and Neptune “final dispositors” for all the other planets. By looking at how “chains of dispositors,” “final dispositors,” and “mutual reception” are in play between the planets, we get a clear picture of the backdrop for how each planet operates. You can find out more about dispositors in general, chains of dispositors, and mutual reception by going to Astrology Class – What Is A Dispositor and What Is Mutual Reception Between Two Planets?

The Magic of Venus: Friendships, Soul Mates, and Twin Flames

Venus in Leo is part of the chain of dispositors and a key to how Jupiter and Uranus function through the end of this year and the first few months of 2024. It also now influences Mars’ expression for the time it’s in Libra, making it dominant over Mars in its sign of exile.

In this chart, Venus is on a degree of “an old sea captain rocking,” where our retrospections can give us power and memory of dramas overcome and skills acquired in the past. As it’s part of the “7th Harmonic Kite Configuration” in play at this time, it’s part of the platform of how this Lunation will express through the Moon, itself on a degree that is Saturn’s theme for the year!

Venus is about to make its third pass between 13 and 29 Leo, promising great good fun for many, and as long as we don’t overdo it through the square to Jupiter all should be quite nice. Just don’t settle for less than what’s right, and take the shot at whatever “warmth of feeling” and life renewal presents itself. Venus is a very powerful influence at this time, and has given us all a new appreciation of our Leo energies.

If you want to know more about how to shape your Venus power to attract better friends and relations in the future, please consider getting your copy of my book The Magic of Venus: Friendships, Soul Mates, and Twin Flames. It is the most comprehensive book on Venus ever written, and explains why we attract who we do and how to create more satisfying relationships in the future. You will understand the foundations of long term healthy relationships and friendships, why Soul Mates come into our lives, and learn how to shape your attractive power to have better times with better people in the future. Even if you’re not looking for a partner, this book will explain why certain people with certain traits came into your life and what they taught you about yourself.

It has chapters on the qualities of each sign’s natural mate, the qualities of Venus in each sign, and when crucial choices and changes are made, affecting who we attract in the future. It was written for both astrologers and lay people, and as it has a thousand gems for better relationships, with self, others, and Source, please consider getting your copy by going to the link above! (And when you’re done, please leave a review on Amazon, since it helps the book and all other books on astrology as well!)

The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon

This Full Moon falls at 8 Virgo and 8 Pisces. It is said that the first third (decan) of any sign deals with the actional and material levels of life, and as the Lunation is in the first decan of those signs, invokes a sub-influence of Virgo and Pisces.

Since the Moon always focuses the light of the Sun in specific forms, the degree symbols for both are important. The Sun degree is the illumination or enlightenment of the Lunation, whereas the Moon shows us the potential forms that enlightenment will take. Though I’ve given you a sense of what this is about up to now, here’s where we go into detail.

The Solar degree symbol for the 8th degree of Virgo is “First dancing instruction.” In the original Jones class notes Dane Rudhyar published in The Astrology of Personality, he states this degree is one of “early social conditioning of the superior elements of being,” “proper start in self-discipline,” and “conventional development.”

In The Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree is about “learning to use one’s capacity for emotional self-expression according to cultural standards.” He states this “process of emotional experiencing under controlled situation is shown now to demand self-induced, active movement; yet the movements are still conditioned, if not totally determined, by cultural and thus collective patterns,” where “the individual can express (their) individual character only according to traditional modes.”

He offers this symbol offers us new perspectives, and is a “transitional phase which may lead to mastery” where our consciousness is “still dominated by some form of authority.” We also read that this phase is about “entering the level of conscious (adulthood)… where there is the “potentiality of initiation.” He says this degree falls in the Span of Idealization, Act of Stabilization, and Scene of Characterization on the Emotional-Cultural level.

Dr. Jones says this is a degree of “the self-perfecting required for the many different forms” of our participating in experience with others, “illustrated here in a potential excellence of special skill.” He states “the dance of life includes infinite versions of its rhythm and provides illimitable variations on the theme of its melody, but there must be some specific encouragement of individual ability as a stimulus to effective endeavor.”

He finishes with saying that it’s always necessary to have an “initial trial of self which in time leads to a continuity of effort.” He offers us the keyword ASSISTANCE. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is achievement through a personal competence and a high gift for co-operation.

The Lunar degree symbol for the 8th degree of Pisces is “A girl blowing a bugle.” In the The Astrology of Personality, where Rudhyar uses the original Dr. Jones' class notes on the symbols, 8 Pisces is said to be a degree of “Fullness of life as it manifests in service to the whole,” “Spiritual socialization,” and “call to participation in the race work.”

In The Astrological Mandala he offers that this degree is one of "a call to participation in the service of the race, as an evolutionary crisis approaches,” and states this symbol is about “the emotional relationship between the individual and the collectivity of human beings.” He continues that this is about “a new race of human beings may well be slowly unfolding some of its potential of consciousness and fulfillment.”

He says “The individual who envisions this evolutionary development ‘sounds the call.’ He or she is both seer-herald and mutant... both an individual true to (their) original nature and a dedicated person – dedicated to the future he or she holds in latency as does a seed in mutation.” We are told this is “a new form of consecration of the individual to the Whole,” where “tomorrow acts through today,” summoning us to rebirth. So this Saturn threshold will lead to “a call” to renew some part of our life, and/or herald coming developments for a collectivity. He states this degree falls in the Span of Innocence, Act of Capitalization, and Scene of Federation on the Emotional-Cultural level.

Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of “the self-perfecting required for the many different forms of (our) participation” with others as we “discharge group responsibilities.” Here our personalities must make some “special modification” as a basis for our fulfillment. He says “the individual challenges (others) and is challenged by them in turn at each recurring point of special potentiality.”

He offers the keyword SUMMONS. He goes on to state that when operating positively, the degree is “an eagerness for self-expression and an alertness to every opportunity for self-justification.”

From these symbols it seems the next two weeks we’ll see the Light of emotional-social synthesis involving active disciplines of self-perfection and cultivating special skills appropriate to our individuality where we train to enter into a higher level of cultural interaction. It offers us a chance to refine who we are and how we do our Being, with precision and determination leading us into new realms of self-expression.

The Lunar symbol, also on the emotional-social synthesis degree, shows the Light will find expression through hearing a call to “life’s renewal” or some other form of heralding “tomorrow acting through today” giving us a “summons” to a dynamic form of self-expression. This is the focused form of renewed service to a greater cause or Whole.

We’re in an Era of Overlapping Capricorn and Aquarius Cycles

As you know by now, we had numerous important long wave conjunctions in January 2020 which were set into motion in March 2020, including a 12 year cycle and a 33 year cycle! Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all made conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020 which were activated by Mars in March 2020. Mars completed its run at its conjunction with Saturn at 1 Aquarius which also set long wave preliminary Aquarian structures into play which are expanding and currently taking shape.

We’re seeing the competition between the Capricorn and Aquarian cycles play out in the world between the regressives and the progressives, between the forces of control and the forces which resist control, and between the materialists and the idealists. The Capricorn cycles will be in play for many years to come, but by mid-century they will wane while the Aquarian cycles will have become dominant.

That “Great Compression” of planets in early 2020 created a very crowded house in a very narrow span of degrees, impacting where we have late Capricorn for many years to come. Add the three conjunctions of Jupiter with Pluto as it transited back and forth over the January and March degree points, and we’ve had a lot of long wave Pluto energies expanded which will show effects over the next decade! If you’re wondering how this Great Compression and those to come will impact us, please check out the linked articles on the bottom of Part 1 of this series published last week.

TransPluto, Divine Mother, and the Tests of Human Redemption

I’ve included this section for many years to keep you all aware of the workings of Divine Mother on our Earth in this Age in Transition. Rather than simply reprint it each month, I created this material as a separate article unto itself a while back. If you want to know more about the vast spiritual field coaxing us toward a great redemption of the promise of Life itself, please take a new look at TransPluto, Divine Mother, and the Spiritual Lessons of 2023. We have now returned to a time where we redeem much through shedding our preconceptions and furthering fellowship regardless of the differences and distinctions.

*********

At the 2020 World Teacher Full Moon of Sun in Gemini and Moon in Sagittarius I gave you a universal prayer/meditation offered to us by the Tibetan Master D.K. in April 1945 at the end of the war. Tens of millions around the world do this prayer every Full Moon, tuning into the Whole which we ALL are together. I said it every day for many years, and still say it every Full Moon. (It was a real trip to see eyes suddenly open and/or lightbulbs go on over people’s heads when I did it countless times riding the NYC subways when I lived there in the early 80s!)

In 1976 I changed a few words to make it more universal. For your consideration,

The Great Invocation

From the point of Light within the mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of All,
Let Light descend on Earth

From the point of Love within the heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of All
May Christ return to Earth

From the center where the Will of God is known
Let Purpose guide the little Wills of All
The Purpose which the Masters know and serve

From the center which we call the Human Race
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

Again, as I’ve offered you many times before, when you see the title "The Christ" if you are so inclined please substitute "World Teacher," "Bodhisattva," "Imam Madhi," "Krishna," “Kristos,” "Avalokiteshvara," "Maitreya," "Messiah," or any other term used to describe this Great Being. And if you substitute “Enlightened Ones” or “Wise Ones” for “Masters” I doubt it would offend anyone.

See you soon with part 3 covering aspects, planetary sequencing, and other important factors in this Full Moon.
